Anyone getting the stealth bagging tree pics on social media?

My Facebook feed has suddenly become awash of beautifully and artfully decorated Christmas trees with a caption along the line of, "my friends have said this is boring and sterile... 😢" or "I can't be bothered this year, let the kids throw it all on."
These trees literally could have come out a JL shop window, it's silly stealth bragging. Grin

(Disclaimer - this is lighthearted! I'm slightly jealous of the fancy trees!)

I have a friend who insists that she lets her kids do hers. Its true she does but then when they are out she does it all again "tastefully"
I let my ds put our tree up on saturday. It still had the lights wrapped/mangled round it from last year as I couldnt be arsed removing them. Its looks quite shit but we really dont care.

DH is really really anal about packing away the lights and decorations which suits me because he does it all himself and they're easy to put up the following year.

I sometimes quite fancy an elegant colour themed tree but in reality ours is a hodge podge with shite preschool decorations, ancient (and surprisingly long lived) CBeebies crafts and Thomasland commemorative baubles amongst the beautiful glass ones. Love it.

Nothing wrong with showing a pic of a lovely tree.. I love the tree pics.
It sounds like you just don’t like social media

I agree there's nothing wrong with sharing a photo of the tree, I love seeing them but I think OP is referring to those posters that humble brag alongside their posts. It's a bit pathetic really and very clearly attention seeking. If they really thought it looked shit they wouldn't be posting on social media fishing for compliments.
CSJobseeker · 06/12/2021 12:19

None of my FB friends do this. Some have posted trees, but none have been bragging or self deprecating. Just average trees.

I'd change my FB (and real life) friends if I realised I was attracting braggy people that I dont actually like.

When I was on FB a friend of a friend was obsessed with the humble brag about Christmas, one day I just couldn't sit on my hands any more and so I commented in a what I thought was a hilarious and sarcastic post - she deleted it and blocked me Grin

Try 'Tell me about it. Mines exactly the same, but I'm past caring!'

What did you say?

I’ve put a picture of mine on as it’s broken, lost some branches and has a lean the Eiffel Tower would be proud of. No stealth brag and, because I have likeminded friends they’ve either commented it doesn’t matter or said yes it looks shit!

FatCatThinCat · 08/12/2021 11:56

My tree is genuinely decorated in a 'I'm past caring' way. This is because I've decorated it multiple times already. Stupid feckin cat won't leave the bloody thing alone. I've reached the point of just picking it up and throwing everything at it and leaving it where it lands.

I would answer the 'this is boring and sterile' posts with 'never mind, if you like it that's what counts' You think FB is bad, try being on Instagram

Everyone knows what you post on social media is not always the truth. I am often surprised at how poorly decorated some of my friends trees are to be honest! Like an uneven sprinkling of lights and a few ornaments- but then I'm pretty obsessive about decorating, not in the 'it must look like a shop window display', more like 'how can I fit even more of my beautiful decs on'. Our tree has ornaments from yesterday to 50 years ago, from all corners of the globe, in all colours. And I do post it! Not here though as not quite finished....
