I need some kind of fresh thinking Confused I'm drawing a blank on my mum.
She's basically home bound and can't leave her chair very much at all.
She can't wear make up, can't hold books, can't grip very well, can't bath.
She has a collection of jewellery that would put mr T to Shame and more perfume than boots. Around eight million pairs of slippers, tons of clothes, loathes kindles and most technology.
Also diabetic, non drinker.
She's lovely I really want to get her something good but im very very stuck

A heated throw/blanket?

Hermanfromguesswho · 05/12/2021 13:01

An Alexa and an audio book subscription?

HarassedMother · 05/12/2021 13:01

I know she doesn't like technology but would an Alexa with audible subscription go down well if she can't hold books?

Maybe a nice soft shawl for keeping the chill off?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 05/12/2021 13:01

Audio books

FlakeyLurker · 05/12/2021 13:01

A painting for the wall?

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 05/12/2021 13:02

Window bird feeder

EllieSattler · 05/12/2021 13:05

My FIL hated technology but had an Echo Show. Better than a Dot because we could video call, use it as an electronic photo display, and he could have the date and time on large view (he got forgetful towards the end and liked knowing when he was). Perfect with an Audible subscription for audio books, no buttons to press, all voice activated.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 05/12/2021 13:13

So far the heated blanket is a nice idea 🤔well, they all are it's just that ally family are so awkward!
I doubt she'd listen to an audiobook and they would think the Alexa was spying on their private lives Grin.

A homemade voucher for a home visit from hairdresser? Window mounted bird feeder or nest box? (My dad enjoyed this last year, he could see the little nest inside)

Peabody25 · 05/12/2021 13:24

Photo album
Digital photo frame
Electric blanket
Nice throw
DVD player and dvds of a tv programme or film she likes (I know that's tech based!)
Bird feeder for the garden to sit and watch the birds
Some nice tea or coffee

Thanksagainand · 05/12/2021 13:27

Definitely heated throw. Mum in law loves.

Meowenstein · 05/12/2021 13:31

Subscription of a streaming channel like Netflix, if she can manage holding the remote control? Flameless candles with remote & timer (they are great!!)

ShinySquirrel · 05/12/2021 13:31

All these are brilliant ideas.

You could do a diabetic-friendly (I'm assuming she is type 2) mini drinks hamper. Tesseire do lovely sugar-free syrups, including an elderflower one, and all of them are gorgeous with sparkling water. I'd be thrilled to get some of those with some nice tea and coffee, and a mug or a glass.

Meowenstein · 05/12/2021 13:32

UYUNI wax candles are the nicest, they look just like the real ones.

Meowenstein · 05/12/2021 13:37

Here is a link. They are expensive, but so worth it compared to others. There is a dimmer, and with the small remote you can easily sit in your chair and turn all the candles on or off at the same time.

A heated throw or a cashmere blanket. I think an audible subscription would actually be really good - you may not think she’d use it (she might not even think she’d use it) but if I couldn’t go anywhere or do much books would be a lifesaver and since she can’t hold books it’s the next best thing. She might find she really enjoys being able to listen to a book.

Floralnomad · 05/12/2021 13:39

Fresh flower subscription or a terrarium of some kind , orchid ones are nice if you like orchids .

purpleboy · 05/12/2021 13:42

Digital photo frame is a good shout from a pp

UndertheCedartree · 05/12/2021 13:42

Flowers, a plant or mini Christmas tree. Also second the heated throw.

Meowenstein · 05/12/2021 13:50

Heat holders socks (and gloves) are really, really good and so warm and comfortable!

Boxachocs · 05/12/2021 13:55

Digital photo frame.

HelebethH · 05/12/2021 13:59

How about a nice diabetic afternoon tea delivery? We sent my inlaws a present of a plaque of the family surname and a history of the name. Lots of online companies do this. They loved it.
I think we used Hall of Names

Samedaysame · 05/12/2021 14:30

Has she got a reclining chair sorry maybe a bit boring but they are really great. Xx

thedefinitionofmadness · 05/12/2021 14:36

I was going to say audio book
music in some form
things that smell beautiful - flower subscription?
