Please can someone explain to me genuinely why having a list of dc names is a safeguarding concern..
I see the dc every day. See their dps. And the registration plates of their cars. Know where most live. Know some dps names.
Why can't I have a list of 21 dc who share a class with my ds to write Xmas cards with ds for them all?
Genuine answers please!

Think it is more data protection than safeguarding.
Agree it is crazy!

But everyone knows the names!! What can I do with that information? If it was a secret then dc should have secret coded numbers on pegs not names!!

Hehe l know right?!
The kids are allowed to sit and write a list of their friends' names but the school aren't allowed to give them out is my understanding of it.

Bonkers. Imagine the poor dc who's name gets missed?
Going to send some blank ones incase!!
What things have come to honestly!!
Before long all primary dc will be carrying phones and can just send a festive text!!

When I was at school I had to sit there and write the names from memory - good to get the grey matter working!

It’s UKGDPR. Schools don’t have permission to share the data as it doesn’t belong to them. Annoying but not schools’ fault.

Explains why the previous secretary 'left'.. She sent every address /phone number and email to every parent via email. Then a fast one asking we all delete the previous email
Shock
Apparently sacked from her previous post. Also in a school.
But how is the name we all know anyway data? Because they would write it down and hand it out?

What do you mean? Names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers etc are all data. Then there's sensitive data: marital status, sexuality, religion etc.

If you think you know all the names then why do you need a list?

Well ds 7 is on a new class. I would hate to miss 1 dc out. In general all dc are known to everyone as it is a small school

It's nonsense. A list of 21 first names only is not a breach of data in any way. They're just being ridiculously over cautious.

reasysteady · 04/12/2021 14:53

I work in a school.

It's bonkers, but legally correct, and therefore also not worth the grief when THAT one parent kicks off about their child's privacy being violated....Confused

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 04/12/2021 14:59

Bet THAT dp would be the one kicking off if dc was the only dc with no cards...
