I have just been through my present stashes and I hardly have anything for DS, please help! He turns 2 five days before Christmas so also need enough for his birthday.

He's getting a mini micro scooter as his main birthday present, and other than that he's only got a couple of books, some pjs, a doll and a toot toot car set.

What are you buying the two year olds on your lives? Whenever I go looking for him I end up seeing things for his sister, so she's got loads already!

I don't have a two year old now, but by far the biggest hit when mine were that age was a wooden train set.

Camomila · 01/12/2021 09:44

DS2 is turning 2 in January.

For Christmas he is getting a happy land train set, a giant road puzzle and a couple of toot toot cars to drive on it, and a new Julia Donaldson book.

For his 2nd birthday in Jan he'll be getting a wooden play kitchen.

We have DS1s wooden trains/tracks and while DS2 finds them a bit frustrating now I remember DS1 being able to play by himself (as in pull the trains along without them falling apart) with them by 2.5

I got my little boy who turns 2 in January a Big wooden pushalong firetruck that has various little toys on it (it's by a brand called Squirrel Play in Smyths), a toy hoover as he is obsessed with hoovering (!), and a cocomelon musical tractor as he loves nursery rhymes. Those are his main gifts, I will also get him something cuddly, am either going with a Jellycat or that Kissy Penguin Mumsnet keeps showing me Grin

Stocking fillers will be some small toy cars which he loves, a cute fidget octopus thing as the older 2 are getting pop its, fluffy polar bear socks, a couple of cute bath toys and then sweet treats. I will also get a onesie as we always do cosy clothes as a present, and a couple of classic young children books that we don't own yet, am thinking Goodnight Moon for him. My mum is getting him a keyboard as he loves musical toys.

Other good options I've done for my older 2 at that age (they are all Autumn/winter babies so have been a similar age around Christmas) are wooden train tracks and magnetic trains, character toy/figure sets, toy kitchens and play food. Mine were never that into those large play sets like Happyland or Toot Toot drivers, but my youngest does like the actual Toot Toot cars :)

When ds was 2 he fell in love with his cousins toy kitchen. He had a great time turning on switches, moving pots and pans around and stirring play ingredients. Unfortunately he's 11 now and shows zero interest in cooking :(

Duplo Lego my DS loves it

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/12/2021 11:43

DD was just 2 last year and the biggest hits were two tegu cars - they are cars that fit together with magnets and are also popular with visiting children

Duplo

Anything toy kitchen related

Paint pens - much cleaner way to paint

Her sister's megasketcher

Duplo, brio, happyland, jigsaws, vehicles of any description

My 2 year old loves her happyland construction set last year, it’s still played with most days. She’s 3.5 now and seems a bit big for it but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.

Magnetic tiles
Aqua draws
Sand castle building set for the summer . I have two December babies and they always feel hard done by as they don’t get any summer toys so I always give them a few things they can keep for the summer .

Noimaginationforaun · 01/12/2021 20:13

Our little boy is 2! We’ve got him

  • market stall from Aldi
  • wooden food/groceries from Aldi
  • train track/road from Aldi
  • wooden till from Aldi
  • wooden rainbow and stacker boards from Amazon
  • bin lorry from TKMaxx
  • magic paint book

Not much compared to lots I’ve read but we think he’ll love it! He is loving playing shops the minute! Aldi have such lovely toys!

IWasFunBeforeMum · 01/12/2021 20:25

My 2 year old boys loves Cars (as in the film) so got him a few of those. Also loves his books. I don't think they need masses the first couple of years

YoBeaches · 01/12/2021 20:46

Well I have been through a phase of feeling really stingy on my 2 and a bit yr old. I cycle toys a lot / down to charity, sell or pass on and get the next lot in so we don't have piles and piles of stuff. But we live near the beach and play out a lot so I've never seen a need for lots of stuff. I go to other people's houses and there's walls and walls full of stacked toys so I feel tight!

Anyway, dd is getting..

duplo car garage set (these are pricey aren't they?!)
Fancy dress box full of bits from
Charity shops and some new princess dress/fireman/doctor dress up - a good one for other people to contribute to as well
Couple of learning toys - numbers and colours
Some baby annabel clothes and accessories
Peppa pig figures which I have avoided to date - have asked family to get her any other peppa pig stuff they want
A toy hoover
Colouring books/packs
Mattie bubble bath as I always got this as a kid!
Choc Santa

I've asked family to get her things like pyjamas, knockers, socks and hair stuff and other bits she'll appreciate for a tiny second - but actually needs.

I think that's it. It's all hidden and I keep thinking I need more, but I really don't!

BakewellGin1 · 01/12/2021 21:07

Dinosaurs
A car transporter and cars that someone on here mentioned it might be little tykes make - it's huge though I thought it was smaller but DS will actually be able to sit on it I think.
Fire Station and Engine
Sticker Books
Kitchen
