Board & card games for 2 people

What are the best games for 2 people, one adult & one 9 year old. Current favourites are cluedo & dobble.
Are there any good escape games for 2 people?

Patchwork is worth a look, its a well-regarded 2 player game.
In terms of escape games, any of the Unlock or Exit games can be done 2 player.

Hive and Tatsu are both good and ok for a 9yo to play. Dobble and banana grams are good too.

Forbidden Island is excellent, cooperative and the aim is to make it off the island with the treasures before it sinks.

If your 9yo like puzzles they may like Deckscape games, but they might be set a bit older.

Port Royal is great and there is an adventure expansion.

I just bought a game I'm loving playing with my DH - Azul, Stain Glass of Sinatra. Nice bit of strategy and it's gorgeous which makes me very happy.

I'm considering going oldschool and getting backgammon. I haven't played it in decades. Anyone got any thoughts?

Othello has always been an old-school multi-generational favourite in our family

Monopoly card deal is brilliant. (I don't like the board game but as a card game it is the best.)

We love backgammon, definitely go for it! It gets extraordinarily competitive between me and DH 😂
