Advent ideas

Hello.... help required!

We have an advent calendar that a few years ago I decided to put daily notes in. These were things we might have been doing such as 'let's put the Christmas tree up today' it generally is a calendar of events and sometimes when I'm stuck the odd chocolate.

Stupidly I didn't keep the notes from last year and I was hoping to get away without it this year now DS and DD are 13 and 11 but DD asked if we were doing it again.

Once we get to the school holidays we are fine as we have a few things planned but I'm really stuck this year. Anyone with any wise ideas about what I can put in there?

This is what I have so far

For some reason it didn't include what I have so far:

  1. Treasure hunt for advent calendar
  2. Put the Christmas tree up
  3. Christmas walk and movie
  4. Chill day while mum does housework
  5. Do something nice for someone else

So many days to fill Confused

Bake Christmas goodies or are they too old for that?

MagpiePi · 30/11/2021 07:16

Chill day for mum while kids do housework Grin

Could you get them to put in a couple of ideas? Make them keep it secret from you and the other one.

Tree up
Food bank donation
Putting out fat balls for the birds
Film night
Go out for a drive/walk to look for lights
Hot chocolate night
DIY pizza
Games night
Everyone takes a turn to choose dinner or pudding throughout December
Depending on budget, you could give them £5 each and get them to choose a gift for an underprivileged child or woman in a refuge. I know Asda and Tesco have trolleys out for people to donate to.

I love all of these thank you. Yes we do normally do the give a gift, so again perfect.

I've had a real mental block this week, I'm so busy with work and it's all just crept up in me!

A challenge to do something nice for one of their siblings.
You could go to a Christmas market
You could go to a Carol Service

Depending on the weather (I know some of us have had snow already) you could have a reserve note ready to slip in overnight for a snowman building competition.

Shamelessly hijacking - I’d love to do this but are very short of time on schooldays - it’s a mad scramble, kids go to after school club and don’t get home until about 6:30.

Any ideas for really really simple 5 minute things we can do on these days would be welcome!

We are the same so weekdays we keep simple and I plan around their activities and then the nice stuff happens for the holidays. It has to be planned in advance as I can't do baking in a school night when we're in and out for their hobbies.

Happy to out your the final list once I've sorted it today.
