I’ll start by saying this is nothing to do with the JL code glitch!!
Short version - does anyone know if you exchange an item bought online from JL do you get an email telling you about the exchange?
Reason I’m asking - my MIL is a very tricky character but we’re all rubbing along fine at the moment. Yesterday she very kindly gave my DC some advent calendars, very unexpected but lovely surprise. She hasn’t bought them any before in the last 10 years. My DS was out at football yesterday so he didn’t open his until she had gone, but we have a problem as she has given him a Lego Star Wars calendar that we have already bought (he doesn’t know yet, we were going to present them on 1st Dec). I bought the calendars months ago in person don’t have the receipts etc. MIL said she ordered them online from John Lewis as she told a story about collecting them from Waitrose a few weeks ago. So now I’m wondering if I go to John Lewis, explain what has happened whether they can look up her order (I have her email and address) would they be able to exchange it for something else, and if so would she get notification of the return via email?
She would not take kindly to her gift being exchanged even if DH called her to explain and we don’t want to rock the boat as we are due to have them to ours for Christmas, but I would rather they fell out that way than if she found out via a JL exchange notification email! Worst case is I give away the one we bought, but then we have to spend more money getting DS another one as his siblings will now have 2 each.
I know this sounds ridiculous and it is, in my family I’d have just rung my Mum and explained, no issue no drama, but we can see the fallout coming with MIL about how she was just doing a nice thing, DS must be ungrateful if he can’t have 2 of the same, we should have told her what we had already bought, etc etc.
