Booked to go to Poland via the Netherlands over Christmas, but the uncertainty is getting on my wick. I'm toying with just cancelling it and staying at home. Are you thinking of changing/cancelling your travel plans too or am I overreacting?

We're supposed to be in Austria from the 21st. They're in lockdown until the 13th. We're in limbo because the flights are nonrefundable if we cancel, so we need the airline to cancel for us.

We booked this holiday in September 2020 thinking that things were bound to be more settled by then.

We’re in the Middle East (I see one or two other posters are too). Two family members are booked to visit at Xmas. We haven’t seen our families since summer 2019. They haven’t seen DS since he was 3 and they haven’t seen my new baby at all. I’ll be really sad if we have to cancel. I suppose that’s selfish of me because there are worse things.

For Christmas were braced for not having family over (they're in country, but several hours away).

I've always stuck by lockdown rules, but even I am feeling a bit resentful, like if I CAN see my family then I really really want to.

But I've just booked our Easter holiday, paying a premium for full free cancellation until 24 hours prior.

Yes because I can’t self isolate on my return. I’m beyond fucked off.

@anewdispensation

I was meant to be going to Cape Town in 2 weeks with my family. I actually cried when I cancelled the Airbnb last night. COVID is crap!

I feel sad for you . I can see you had no choice and must be devastating not seeing your family for so long .

We’d changed our annual market trip from Vienna to Barcelona when things were going tits there a few weeks ago. Just hoping that can go ahead but tbh I’m not holding my breath at the moment

CharlotteRose90 · 28/11/2021 11:30

I heading to Poland for the Christmas markets on the 6th, at the minute I’m still going . Haven’t booked my laterals yet so I’m happy paying the extra for the pcr if I can go. I can isolate for the day till my results come back in. Then I’m heading to the Lake District the next day so should be fine. I’m not worried.

Yes. Live in France. Had a stay in London planned just before Christmas to see my parents and see a show (our present from my parents). Parents dont live in London so we d all booked hotels.

Have to cancel cos won't have pcr results in time to go to show and we d come out of isolation just in time to get the eurostar home Sad

Gutted. Haven't dared tell DC yet, they will be so upset.

Supposed to being to Gibraltar on Boxing Day. I couldn't be arsed before yesterday but now I'm even more keen on staying here now. I refuse to pay a fortune for testing so am hoping can persuade husband to move it again.

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2021 12:37

We've been discussing Christmas food shopping, so without actually saying anything it looks like the plan will now be a Christmas at home. I'm disappointed but not overly so. Our trip was just for leisure, not to see family or anything, which puts things into perspective really.

I'm so so thankful that we took the chance to come back to the UK for a couple of weeks to see family earlier this month after 2 years away. We were thinking the borders would be fully open by Christmas and my family could come and visit us (we'll have a new baby) but now it looks like that's not going to happen.

I feel so sad for all the families whose plans have been ruined by this new variant.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/12/2021 10:37

I think the new 2 day pre travel testing requirements to get back into the UK are the final nail in the coffin to our Christmas travel plans. Rather than looking forward to going away, I'm now feeling it's more hassle than it's worth. We'll lose the money for our flights but shelling out extra for PCR and lateral flow just feels like throwing good money after bad just now.

We cancelled the Christmas market market and making Merry trip we had in Europe just before Christmas which I’m glad about as we’re currently on the other side of the world and now have £700 of covid tests to do this week! But we knew changes are always possible these days.

Both trips were milestone birthday celebrations for two people that were cancelled and rebooked repeatedly for the last 18 months.
