Pudding not cooking? How long do you steam yours?

It's well-wrapped in a 1lt bowl in a large saucepan (upturned saucer style), water kept topped up, constantly boiling for 6 hours and it's not cooked at all (although it's certainly hot).

So I am very cross. (see).

Do you think another couple of hours might improve matters?

how do you know it isn't cooked? have you kept the lid on?

squimlet · 16/12/2007 13:08

is it still runny when you poke a skewer in?
TBH i steam mine in the oven bowl in saucepan and the whole lot covered with foil. It cooks in about an hour.

is your mixture right? you might end up nukeing it in the micro if you cant steam it

I know it isn't cooked because it's cooled down and I've cut the string & removed the foil and it's still gooey.

I may try it in the oven a la squimlet.

ahh i see, sorry, I thought it was still cooking!
how big is 1lt in pints? my 3 pt pudding takes 10 hrs to steam

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/12/2007 13:42

1ltr would be about 1.5pints so 6 hours should have been enough.

It's now in the oven. Will go and clean the chickens out and then check it's progress!

How do you find the time to do a 10 hour steam?

oh and i dont cover the top of the basin under the foil, i leave it open

fingerwoman · 16/12/2007 13:43

by ignoring the screaming kids while I prepare it and then staying in all day lol.

It's cooked. Hurrah! Thanks ladies.

I have a larger pudding to do tomorrow and will use oven method again (doesn't steam up the windows either).
