What have you bought your 17 year olds?

Worried as DD’s pile looks tiny, she’s not girly and is quite young for her age (ASD) but says she doesn’t want anything that she doesn’t need or won’t use. I have bought her….

Fake oodie
Switch controller
Switch joycons
Pokemon game for her switch
Lava lamp
Board game
Kinder selection box
2 T-shirt’s
Lush snow fairy body spray

It looks much better written down but when wrapped it doesn’t look like much compared to what her younger sister has. I’m sure she will be happy with all of it. What are your 17/18 year olds getting?

@Kendodd

We live rurally so unfortunately it's going to have to be a car.
That will be a great gift, I’m sure your dc will be pleased. My dd has some physical disabilities and dyspraxia so we are lucky to have a mobility car but I’m struggling to find a driving instructor to teach in a automatic 😭. We are rural too and she could really do with learning to drive before she finishes school next September. Hopefully I can get her some lessons for her birthday.

DD almost 18 (omg can’t believe she’s going to be 18!)
She’s got:
Ballet tickets (whole family going)
Ugg slippers (thanks to the Black Friday deals I’ve got them almost half price!)
Lumie Sunrise alarm
Edinburgh gin and pretty glasses

I’ve got several little bits for stockings like hot chocolate, knickers, things she needs rather than wants.

pourmeanotherglass · 27/11/2021 10:23

Nothing yet.
She wants a pair of platform Doc Martens, which she would need to try on so Ill take her shopping today for those.
The only other thing on her list is a dinosaur onesie!
Ill probably get a last minute list from her with art stuff. Probably copic markers as some of hers are running out of ink..
We stopped doing stockings but i might get her some fluffy socks to fill with sweets etc for her and her big sister to open before church. Will add a couple of small things like nail varnish or earrings.
Not a big pile, but the Docs are quite expensive.
Can anyonne reccomend a good small game? We've got Dobble and exploding kittens - something like that but different?

Goneback2school · 27/11/2021 10:25

Ds is 16 but is getting a fake oodie, a dolce gusto coffee maker, a new hoodie/ tshirts, led lights, funko pop figure, 3×anime books and the usual sweets and undies etc for his stocking.

BabbleBee · 27/11/2021 10:34

@pourmeanotherglass Uno is a small game if you don’t already have it.

rainbowstardrops · 27/11/2021 10:35

Watching with interest as I haven't bought my DD16 or DS 21 anything other than some chocolate coins so far, so any suggestions would be most welcome too!!!

DD16 isn't girly at all. Not into clothes or makeup. No specific hobbies. Bought her a fake Oodie last year. She does like animals but she's already done a keeper experience at a small local 'zoo'.
Thinking of some EarPods but don't know.

DS21 is sporty and quite musical but has got most of what he wants already. His taste in clothes is probably different to mine, so I'm at a complete loss! 😂

peaceanddove · 27/11/2021 10:41

DD2 is 17. So far I've bought:

Gym Shark sport bra & matching leggings
Angel Nova perfume by Thierry Mugler
Beige sheepskin biker jacket from Urban Outfitters
Beige sweatshirt from Lounge
Massive box of After Eights
Carhartt black beanie
Matching bra + knickers from Lounge
Pair of Monki jeans
Mini waffle maker
Skinny Tan luxe tan kit
Digital photo frame

Lovemusic33 · 27/11/2021 10:44

I have just ordered her provisional license in hope we get space with a driving instructor soon (they are booked up so I have out her on the waiting list) 😬, she will either love me or hate me for this 🤣. Hopefully I can lay for her first lesson for her birthday.

OP posts:
DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/11/2021 22:48

Hope the provisional doesn't take forever OP. We sent off for dds in early August. She was too young looking on her passport for her to want to lift her photo from there for the prov. so had to send off a photo too when they sent us a form the week after. We finally got something through the post last week. (And it was a request for the right passport number as DH had cocked up and written the wrong one on the form). I'm now hoping it does come for Christmas but not holding out much hope!

Lovemusic33 · 29/11/2021 07:16

We may have the same issue with her passport photo 😬

50ShadesOfCatholic · 29/11/2021 07:18

Designer PJs, the fancy candle she wants and jewellery. That's it.

beckie3 · 29/11/2021 10:09

My DD is 17 and she has :
Tickets to Lion King, overnight stay in hotel
AirPods
Ticket to Ed Sheeran
Gucci Perfume
Northface hoody & leggings
Nike Hoody & Joggers & socks
AirForce
Hairdryer / straightner
Bellamianta tan set
Pandora ring x2 & earrings
The Ordinary skincare set
Lindor selection box
Book series
and various stocking fillers of chocs, makeup bits, burts bees, lip care set.

it does look so much written down but she is such a wonderful sister to her younger sister, 8yrs old, who has severe ASD & ID. We are in ROI and with all the lockdowns and school closures last & this year, our family life had been hard as the younger DD regressed so much. I just wanted to spoil her .

Lovemusic33 · 29/11/2021 10:14

beckie3 Did you book for the ASD friendly performance of lion king? My younger dd is more severely autistic than her sister, both of them want to see lion king so I was thinking of booking it for their birthdays, was trying to decide if it’s worth travelling further for the ASD one 🤔, the only tickets I can find are for August in Cardif.

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 29/11/2021 10:16

Dd1 will be 17 a week after Christmas. She will be having

Money towards her car fund.
A cake pop maker
A fake oodie
Pandora ring
Chocolate
Slippers
Pyjamas
Some random bits and pieces in her stocking.

I’ve found this year hard to know what to get. Money is her main present, but I wanted to have a reasonable pile to open without spending a small fortune.

FAQs · 29/11/2021 10:30

For those buying DMs I’ve just bought my 17 year old a pair for £76 from Allsole they seem to have a good deal on them at the moment.

maofteens · 29/11/2021 16:50

My 18 year old son:
Headphones
Speakers
Cash
Personalised footie home top
Footie socks
Miniature cologne selection
Chocolate gaming controls
Two illustrated mugs (he's just moved in to a flat)
Hats/scarf/glove set
Funky beanie

16 year old daughter:
Expensive art pens sets
Cashmere jumper
Cosy pjs
Footie t shirt (not pricey home kit like her bro's)
Cat earrings
Illustrated phone case
Funky socks
Bath bombs
Pretty hand cream set

beckie3 · 29/11/2021 18:42

@Lovemusic33, I am only bringing the 17yr old to it and she doesnt have ASD. My younger DD has a severe intellectual disability aswell so would have no understanding at all. She is also non verbal but stims quite loudly so not sure the people around me would be too happy with that Smile I am also in ROI and not sure there is any ASD friendly show . I am looking forward to it, though. Hoping it wont be cancelled Sad

Lovemusic33 · 29/11/2021 18:58

Fingers crossed it still goes ahead. My dd2 struggles to sit still and still a lot when excited so I'm hoping the ASD one will suit her, she would annoy people at the NT one 🤣, I think I will try and book it and hope we can get a travel lodge for a night.

Chakraleaf · 29/11/2021 21:22

I read that and was thinking wow, that's a lot, I thought I was bad Smile then read the end and it brought tears to my eyes. Definitely agree, she deserves spoiling Star
Frazzlerock · 02/12/2021 16:10

Does 16 year old count? Similar stuff, right?

Gym towel (one of those ones that folds really small)
PJ bottoms and vests
Protein bars
Bulldog skin care set
Pack of boxer shorts
Protein powder
Apple watch (the big present)
Xbox live for 12 months
Socks
Oreos tin
Belt

MissAmbrosia · 02/12/2021 16:36

For nearly 18 yo dd:

Dolce Gusto coffee maker and some macchiato mugs and Starbucks coffee/hot choc.
Vans trainers
Chilly water bottle
Urban Decay make up palette
Pyjamas
Stocking - pants, socks, opaque tights, smellies, hair bobbles/scrunchies/headphones/USB stick/Screen protectors/chocolate

She has asked for cash as she is saving up to go interrailing next summer (covid allowing) but I still need to have things to unwrap under the tree.

MissAmbrosia · 02/12/2021 16:40

LOL at rewrapping the Harry Styles tickets! We have some from 2 years ago too. I said he'll be middle aged by the time it goes ahead. To go with my Human League Dare 50 tickets Grin
