Heated throw?

OtherPlans · 23/11/2021 16:32

I'm hoping to buy a heated throw for someone. I had a dreamland relaxwell faux fur throw which lasted a good 8 years or so when I lived in a chilly cottage. Not sure whether to get the same though it was pricey and not much stock around now, or one of their other fleece throws. The main request is to get one with 'as warm a heating 'element' as possible' so wondering if there is a difference between brands/models in terms of heat.

This thread is old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for advice on keeping warm this winter, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw page with plenty of toasty Mumsnetter-approved blankets. We hope you find it useful.

Following with interest!

What would it be for? I have a heated throw which is very large but also quite heavy. I can't wear it round my shoulders for wfh as it just falls off. It is great though for putting round me if I'm on the sofa. For wfh I have bought a heated poncho from lakeland. It isn't as big, nor as thick, but it has poppers so will stay in place round my shoulders. It is also very toasty. I use it in an unheated study and although it has nine heat settings haven't had to go above level five.

Just ordered this one for an elderly relative.

I just got the dreamland one. It's very warm but agree it's large and cumbersome. Great for the sofa if you have plug point near enough. Sometimes I still prefer a hot water bottle for directed heat on my back or feet.

MrsHGWells · 23/11/2021 18:49

Best winter purchase ever. I have brought several dreamland throws for friends/family - the teens keep stealing mine, to keep us all toasty warm now the mercury has dropped again.
Which one you buy depends on where and why you want the throw.. on sofa, over bed or on lap/ shoulders.

Dreamland also make a heated pad - useful for on your lap/ back or shoulders if seated.

Lakeland/ Dreamland all same electronics - comes down to purpose / aesthetics.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 23/11/2021 18:50

I have had a Lakeland one and a Dreamland one, they were both the same in terms of heat but I have found that they all broke within 6 months or so. I did usually use them on the highest setting.

endlesscraziness · 23/11/2021 18:51

I've had both, the fur one is far far better

OtherPlans · 23/11/2021 18:53

It's for someone who works from home so I imagine it will be for sofa and also draping across her lap when working on zoom. I'm now wondering if some of the fleece or velvet dreamland ones would be better than the massive faux fur one (mine was indeed cumbersome) so she can wrap herself up or put over her legs.
Heated poncho is a wildcard! I'll have a look at these suggestions!

I have a Dreamland velvet one. It’s fabulous. Everyone fights over it. I use it to drape over me while working at home. I’ve had it a year.

OtherPlans · 23/11/2021 19:09

Aha Daisy. Does it get properly hot? Can you wrap up in it? Looking at the fleece one and velvet ones now. Velvet looks more luxe, but they only depict the model wrapped up in the fleece one.

I was very lucky to be given a Dreamland heated throw. It's amazing. Gets you really warm and big enough to top and tail with my DD on the sofa with it! I also use it in the morning when she comes into my room to get dressed and is freezing - she gets dressed under it! I've also used it a few times when I've woken cold in the night and it warms me enough to get back to sleep. We all love it!

daisypond · 23/11/2021 19:43

Yes, it gets properly hot. It’s a grey colour. Nine heat settings. At least I think it’s a velvet one and not the fleece one. The cat loves it too and makes a beeline for it, even when it’s not turned on.

Holothane · 23/11/2021 19:47

My feet this winter I can’t get them warm the rest of me is toasty just my feet.

Nitgel · 23/11/2021 19:50

I love my dreamland throw. Was useful when I had a temperature and needed warming up.

Cocolapew · 23/11/2021 19:54

I'm under one now! I have the Dreamland deluxe velvet one, its quite heavy. I was going to get my Mum one but Im going to get the lighter velvet one for her, I think this one would be a bit cumbersome for her, shes only tiny.
It's lovely and toasty.

Almostmenopausal · 23/11/2021 19:56

I have one but it says you cannot put it in washing machine (obviously!!) so those of you who already own one, how the hell do you clean it thoroughly?

nancybotwinbloom · 23/11/2021 20:05

I have a velvet one and a fur one.

When we got our dog he was on it so much it became his as I got sick of washing it. He now has a heated back one in his dog cave.

I have the velvet one and I work from home. I love it.

I'm getting my corned one for Christmas

daisypond · 23/11/2021 20:40

You can put the one I have in the washing machine. And tumble-dry it. I don’t have a tumble dryer so haven’t tried.

UndertheCedartree · 23/11/2021 22:52

@Almostmenopausal - mine be can be put in the washing machine.

Almostmenopausal · 23/11/2021 23:00
@Almostmenopausal - mine be can be put in the washing machine.
Really?! Does it not mess up the electrics? The care label on mine says 40 degrees but then has a cross through the machine symbol. I wouldn't dare hand wash it

WeeM · 23/11/2021 23:11

I have a dreamland intelliheat and it’s amazing, 6 temp settings but it kind of reacts to the temp so will adjust itself. The bits against your body always get hottest. It also has a low all night setting so can be used on the bed too. Was about £70 I think

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/11/2021 23:20

We have dreamland one and love it. 3 years gaurentee from lakeland so if broken after 6 months you should return it.

We take the plug out and stick it in the washing machine like it says on the label. Washes up well.

Scattyhattie · 23/11/2021 23:25

Which would be good for a cat owner, bit worried claws may go through the fleece blanket & electrocute their cat Blush

Anyone know if the faux fur wash ok?

caringcarer · 23/11/2021 23:56

I got one in my stocking last Xmas. DH said it was Woucher deal. Very warm and snug and when I put it over me when I am sitting on sofa in evenings I have fallen asleep a few times.

AnnieSnap · 24/11/2021 00:33

I have this one. It’s soft, lightweight and very cosy. There is lots of adjustment in temperatures, timings etc. I think it fabulous.
