So my MIL is staying with us Christmas Eve and will be there Christmas morning. Dh and I always get each other stocking fillers and I need to sort MIL but I always forget and leave it to last min.,, she’s late 70s and just downsized to bungalow. Any ideas?

We are doing one for 90 yr old fil. Bamboo socks, chocolates, and snacky things, a mask and a voucher for a local pizza place he likes. Apple, clementine, candy cane. Dh wants to put in a soap on a rope for a joke, not sure about that though file has sensitive skin. I'll get him some fragrance free Avenno soap bar though, he likes sensible gifts.

Little flashlights and cheap pair of back up reading glasses.

Not sure of your budget, but perhaps some nice chocolates, soft socks could be cashmere if you choose. My mum is into Gardening so I would theme it e.g a Gardening magazine, some seeds, gloves or pair of secateurs.
If she has a hobby or interest, items to do with that.
If you have kids, a mug or similar with the kids picture on.
My mum loves good bags for life, LOQI have some nice ones, they are small wrapped up and useful.
If she likes bath things, you could get bath salts or melts. Nice soap.
L'occitane always have a nice Christmas tin of mini hand creams.
Don't forget some clementines and nuts, my Mum always tells my kids that's all she would get at Christmas. So we put some in her stocking it's daft / silly but she appreciates the sentiment.

If she wears glasses some cleaning wipes or cloth, a naice dish cloth (can get Christmas ones), a candle of course, nail varnish, Emma Bridgewater does lovely packs of tissues, eye mask, Costa coffee type voucher, some bulbs for a tuv/garden.

Aww how lovely to see someone doing something nice for their MIL. I don’t think you can go wrong with smellies, chocolate, tights, fluffy bed socks, a lottery ticket, a nice lipstick and/or nail varnish if she wears them. Maybe a winter hat and/or gloves and scarf?

Can't your DH take this on?

icklekid · 22/11/2021 05:17

Thanks for all the suggestions some really nice ideas I hadn’t thought of especially gardening related as that will go down well. Yes DH could but I love my MIL and I love buying presents so in reality it will be me!!

Just to say a stocking filler for mum was seeds ( look at RHS website or similar ) and a tea towel with bees on it ( she likes putting things in the garden to encourage the bees ) I got mine from Helen Round & that is already wrapped up for my mother. Or does she have a bird feeder - if she likes the birds that could be a route to go down

All best.

Solid hand cream bar. I bought one from the Edinburgh skincare company, comes in a tin and they do various types
Pen & notebook
Good lip balm
Small box of chocolates
Ready mixed cocktail in a tin
Warm socks
Nice mug, possibly with some fancy tea of coffee tucked inside
Does she like any craft type things? I’ve just bought a small embroidery kit from Etsy, there are some really pretty things on there. This is for me and I’m in my 50’s but I’ll really enjoy doing it Smile
