Ordering from USA

Help me out. I'm possibly being denser than usual. If I order something from the US, aside from daft shipping costs, do I have to also pay VAT on it here?
The only this my DS wants is something from Fire Merch... and they only sell in the US.

They should be collecting VAT from you when you purchase. I'm not sure if there are any businesses excluded from that, I was under the impression it applied to all US companies sending to the UK.
