Really stuck for DH present ideas

Hi, I am really struggling for ideas for dh gifts this year. He doesn't have any hobbies although he is getting into diy and has put a tool set with hack saw on his list but I have no idea what good ones are. He likes good wines from France or Italy. I have thought about getting him a dash cam for his car. That's as far as I've gotten.

He's so hard to buy for.

I second the wine society they are really good.

I did a tour and tasting at Chapel Down vineyard earlier this year which was fun and interesting - if you are near enough to a vineyard a tour might be a nice present.

@loveablequalities

We do four gifts:

Something to wear (bamboo slouching pants)
Something to read (a signed edition from one of his favourite authors)
Something to eat (chocolate covered coffee beans)
Something to drink (single malt from the good booze shop in town)

His birthday is in January though so I have also got hiking socks, fancy liquorice, a book of cryptic crosswords and will think of a few other things hopefully.

Really I'd like to take him away for a couple of nights but I'm not sure what the covid situation will be and the logistics seem too difficult with the kids.

You sound really organized lovable. I know what you mean regarding weekend away. I had thought about a weekend or night away but we don't have any child/dog care and not sure what if any Covid things will be in play.

I have thought about making a night away voucher for dh and turning my house into a hotel. I was thinking about setting the table all nice and making us a nice meal. Then drinks in the sitting room and then I was going to pop new lovely sheets on our bed.

These are some Christmas ideas but also some from his birthday as he selfishly has them very close together Grin

I’ve got an online 2 hour cooking lesson thingy.
Campervan adventure book
Air fryer
Potting bench and planters for the courtyard as we have just moved house
Framed photo of ALL the kids as the buggers are never all in one place!
Floatation tank vouchers
A onesie (he’s a 3XL so has never been able to have one before!)
A framed print of the silly song lyrics he always sings to me
A Pug (this one is admittedly quite niche!)

There's 3 things right there! Snap on tools are good go in a tool place and ask what's good they will tell you you can order wine online and if unsure can get advice from them if don't want online somewhere like waitrose will be able to advise you then that's plenty surely. If not add a few treats he likes

@StarryNightSparkles

That sounds absolutely brilliant. You know you get those fancy smanchy takeaway boxes nowadays too. Nico, Rick Stein, Dishoom... loads of places do them. Proper fancy restaurant grub with (I think) only a bit of heating up and plating and things. Some of them are spendy but there's loads of different ones at different price levels. Just a thought.

Also, I'm going to print out and highlight the "loveable sounds organised" remark. Probably get cards printed and hand them out to everyone I know. Grin

Love threads like this as I am always looking for ideas for DH too. Mine has his birthday on Jan 2nd too so I need double the ideas!

I usually get him a rugby style shirt from Joules because he really likes them and will wear it s often that by the following Christmas it is getting past its best so will need replacing.

One year I bought him a dash cam which he did like. Unfortunately a few months later we were in quite a nasty car smash (nobody seriously hurt thank goodness). Afterwards we watched the footage and it was just so awful to see it again that we didn't want to re-watch it. When we got a new car he kept saying he must put the dash cam in again but has never quite got round to it.

Last year I bought him Memory Map Platinum 2020 Edition as he likes both maps and technology. I am not sure if this exact pack is still available, they might do it as a download now. Anyway, he loved it and still says it is the best present he ever had!

Just remembered - one year I was on a thread like this and someone said they had got their DH a lock-picking practice kit. I got DH one of these and he was delighted with it and played with it for hours.

Lego also goes down very well. This year I have got him the Space Shuttle Discovery for his birthday

@BeaLola

karmarie where is the magnetic wristband from? – That sounds something that my DH could definitely use, thank you
There are loads on amazon - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GB2VVQR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CHS9J2K9MTKXMSA448TH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Mine is the same. I’m giving him £100 towards his new glasses but dunno what else, I always wrap up chocolate coins and there are a couple of books he wants…I might twitch and get him AirPods but he doesn’t really need them.

BeaLola · 22/11/2021 10:11

Katmarie thank you Daffodil

Does he like curry? What about an Indian Spice Gift Set? Then he'll cook for you! Win-win!
