One Yoto or Two?

For those with Yotos and more than one child, would you say that it's better to have a Yoto per child or one Yoto to share?

I have nearly 5 year old twins and thinking that a Yoto would be a great Christmas idea. They share a bedroom and seem in no rush to change this set up.

Today I see Yoto announced the release of a mini/personal sized Yoto and I'm now wondering if I get a mini each, a standard each or a standard to share!!

Any opinions welcome please.

(For context, the purchase of the Yoto would be within budget regardless of whether I buy 1 or 2, but I am the type of person who loathes spending money unnecessarily and don't wish to be wasteful)

I've been looking at the mini yoto today, looks fab. I do like the new buttons for rewinding/fast forwarding. It seems to do everything the yoto does except night light, though I'm not sure what the speakers will be like, but for £49 if we didn't have the Yoto I'd have bought that one, I see they're bringing out adventure jackets for it too. We do love our yoto, do (5) uses hers everyday, she likes the night light but it's not a deal braker. One normal Yoto to share would work fine, or 2 smaller ones if you want to use them in the car/travelling or in the future if they'd each rather have their own. They appear to be out of stock of the new mini, whether they've sold out, or awaiting stock so it might be worth checking if they'll have them in before Christmas.

I've bought one between my two (3 & 4.5) for Christmas. Hadn't seen the mini and am cursing slightly now. Buy still wouldn't have bought 2 up front because as much as I'm hoping they love it, its a bit of a gamble.

Could you buy 1 for Christmas and top up with a 2nd for a birthday if it seems necessary?

P.S. I have a code for 10% off your full order if it includes a Yoto player so let me know if you'd like it.

What's a yoto?

44PumpLane · 17/11/2021 20:33

@Mrsfussypants1@Muststopeating the mini has been "released" today but doesn't actually go on sale until the 24th November so we have only seen the £49.99 pricing of the unit and no idea how much the adventure jackets will be.

I like the look of the minis but i would want to hear the quality of the speaker or see some reviews I think too.

Another option would be to buy the larger one for their room and if it proves to be a total hit I could get them mini/personal size for their birthday (we don't buy a big birthday present on their actual birthday as it's too close to Christmas. So we buy their "main" birthday gift half way through the year).

Good to k ow that the one between two seems to work fine so yes, think I'll try that to start!

We have three! One each for the children and they love them.

44PumpLane · 17/11/2021 20:36

@Iamanicepersonreally a Yoto is a personal audio book device for kids.
Its screen free, no microphone, no need for a Web connection other than to download the books to it. Easy for kids to use and puts them in control of their audio books without the need to be able to read as there is a small display that shows pixelated pictures on it.

Similar to a Tonie Box if you're familiar with those, but probably with a little more longevity.

@Insertfunnyname can I ask if you started out with 3 or if you've ended up with 3 because they all enjoyed it so much?

Do you find you need to duplicate cards or do they not tend to want the same stories at the same time?

Do any of the kids share a room?

Sorry just trying to get a feel for what my best course of action will be!

I know, I'm sleep deprived, I've just re read the blurb on Yoto. I think it's a good idea to get the bigger one to share, and the minis for travel if they enjoy them. Don't forget to get a yoto referral code, register on their site to earn extra points for money off, or join the club for 10% off every purchase, free delivery and two cards a month.

ajaudhdnaj · 17/11/2021 20:52

Mine have one each, but use them in separate bedrooms.

I can't fault them, they are brilliant as a product and as a company.

BergamotMouse · 17/11/2021 20:57

We have 2 for 5 year old and 3 year old. They use them in separate bedrooms, oldest has audio books and youngest sleep sounds.

Contemplating getting 2 x minis for car journeys.

44PumpLane · 17/11/2021 21:28

Thanks all, and thanks for the tips @Mrsfussypants1

Once I've decided which way to go (which I am thinking may be one to share for home and if they enjoy it then two minis in a few months) I'll nip on and nab a referral code from one of you helpful lot!

I would get one to share. If they share a bedroom they wouldn't be able to listen to two separate ones at the same time anyway! Getting the mini ones and headphones later in the year for birthday or something is a good idea, they do look good for car journeys etc when you don't want to listen to the wishing chair for 3 hours (speaking from experience!)

Elpheba · 17/11/2021 22:38

Agree to get one “proper” size to share and then if it is a hit you could get a mini one for the car with headphone splitters and they’ve got the option of taking two in the car anyway. I’ve got one for my 5 year old for Christmas- really hope she likes it! And yes to the referral code- makes a decent difference in the price if you buy a few stories at the same time!

Insertfunnyname · 18/11/2021 05:02

@44PumpLane we started out with one. Then two, then three!

Kids are 9,7,5

To be honest I could have got the 9 yr old an Alexa maybe and he’d have just played his audio books on audible. But he loves the Yoto.

They listen to them at bedtime mainly.
