Hi, my daughter is having for a switch for Christmas.. and I wanted to get a couple of games and some accessories to go with it, however I wanted to know which would be better - a plastic case that fits onto it or a zip around bag type?
Also do you know whether animal crossing is suitable for a 7 year old I'm thinking about whether she would be able to read parts of the game?
Any other recommendations I would be glad of too..
Thanks I'm advance!

I'm getting my older DD this one, expensive but so worth it, the quality is fantastic and its very convenient for sleepovers, travelling etc.

Animal crossing is absolutely suitable and is really chilled.
Mario kart is fun as well.

Doona · 15/11/2021 11:15

Just Dance!

Animal crossing is great my DS7 loves it, the only thing was the start can be a bit slow getting the island going and unlocking KK slider etc. So I have my own character on the island and which I use to earn coins and help to buy things which allows DS just to play.

Agree mario kart is brilliant and we also enjoy mario party.

Stick on screen protector, and a zip around case. Most of the zip around cases are quite stiff so offer some protection and have handy pockets inside for storing cartridges.

Agree with zip around case
We have Mario Kart and it’s huge fun

Mario party is great as you can play it together, even ds who is 4 can join in.

This is really helpful as my two want switches (age 10 and 7) and I'm clueless! Will copy that case thanks!

For a total idiot when it comes to technology setting up, is this simple?! I have fears of stress on Xmas morning getting the things connected to telly etc or whatever it is they do!!

Any top places to get a good deal?

Whatinthelord · 15/11/2021 11:57

Common sense media is a good website to look at game reviews and content, and a guide for age suitability.
my 7 year old has a zip around case with space for storing his spare games. He doesn’t do animal crossing though.

I bought this set for our new one: smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092QQDG9V/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7R4577AYY2MEXK9FEKJN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It seems to have all the essentials - a hard shell zip around case, screen protector and grippy case for the switch itself!

I've set ours up already - I registered myself and kids a Nintendo account (just on laptop) so then it was easy to log in on the switch using those so we each have a profile. Suggest doing that all before Xmas day as there were a few updates etc when I did that.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Super Mario Bros
Crash Bandicoot

Can I jump on please to follow for advice? We're looking for games for a 6 and 9 year old. We have animal crossing, which they both love, and Mario kart, which we all love! What others would people recommend? Any whole family games would be even better.

ImJustNotMeAnymore · 15/11/2021 12:41

Don't forget a Nintendo online card too. They sell them in shops and online. Should be about £18 for the year's membership. They also have another level one which costs a bit more that has access to similar to the Xbox game pass.

Clymene · 15/11/2021 12:46

Mario Party is good fun for multiplayer and there's a new one out now/coming shortly

CoodleMoodle · 15/11/2021 12:52

The Lego games are great fun, my 7yo loves them. Her favourite is Lego Movie but she also loves Lego City, Incredibles and Jurassic Park. You can play them 2 player if you have another controller. DD likes me to do the levels and then she just runs around in the world and collects stuff! It's great fun.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I've ordered her a zip around case and screen protector and will get her Animal Crossing. Her grandparents have bought her Mario Kart as that's the one she plays with my nephew so glad it's recommended!
