OP posts:
dementedpixie · 14/11/2021 17:26

We have homemade veg soup with buttered bread

mrsbyers · 14/11/2021 17:28

Ham hock terrine or potted shrimps
Hubby usually has belly pork from M&S party food range

Stillcrikey · 14/11/2021 17:32

We often do a fish platter (prawns, smoked salmon, smoked trout pate) and a meat platter (pate, salami, Parma ham etc.) with salad garnish. Easy to put together and something for everyone.

Incywinceyspider · 14/11/2021 17:36

Prawns and sweet chilli sauce
I usually love pate with melba toast or an antipasti board but I'm pregnant

InFiveMins · 14/11/2021 17:49

We never do a starter, but if we did, I think I'd go for homemade soup with bread rolls.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/11/2021 17:52

Baked camembert with warm bread.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 14/11/2021 17:55

I am having whole stuffed kabocha squash with cheese, veggies, walnuts, cranberries and chestnuts. Looks great and tastes delicious

politics4me · 14/11/2021 18:02

Checking in for ideas @shrumps.
Only idea I have had was from a recipe in DMail, Salmon Burgers, I thought of adding extra spice and serving them as mini ones. but only one layer of bread.

WhatonEarth1 · 14/11/2021 18:03

Spiced butternut soup with star shaped croutons
Melon and Parma ham
Hot smoked salmon vol au vents
Caramelised onion and goats cheese tarts

goose1964 · 14/11/2021 18:09

We have garlic and chilli prawns and red pepper and tomato soup for prawn haters, even if I get told my soup's not as good as MiLs, and I use her recipe.

1forAll74 · 14/11/2021 18:42

I dont have any starters, the big meal is the king of the table.. not keen on desserts either. But always make one of my famous lovely trifles, to eat some time later..people can choose when they feel like eating some, after a large dinner.

Icantremembermyusername · 14/11/2021 18:48

Smoked salmon, blinis, soured cream. Snipped chives, if I remember them

maofteens · 14/11/2021 18:59

We aren't doing a starter as I love turkey so much and don't want to feel full before getting to the main event!
But salmon mousse with crisped pita bread, homemade mushroom soup, smoked salmon, or yep prawn cocktails all have been served in the past.

bigbluebus · 14/11/2021 19:16

We have smoked salmon with dill creme fraiche and fresh bread & butter. Don't want anything too filling as a starter before Christmas Dinner.

Christmas1988 · 14/11/2021 19:26

Watermelon and feta salad with mint and lime dressing, I need the oven space for the main so always do a light salad instead. This salad is very refreshing and the children will eat it too without the feta.

TheRealHousewife · 14/11/2021 19:36

Might be having gluten free blinis topped with smoked salmon mouse & lump fish caviar. Served with a sparkling tipple.

actiongirl1978 · 14/11/2021 19:42

We eat blinis with our pre lunch cocktail/champagne. In the sitting room.

Ragwort · 14/11/2021 19:43

I don't think I've had a starter in my 60+ years if Christmas meals! Maybe I am just too greedy for the main course ... a few smoked salmon canapés with drinks well before the meal is all I offer.

Gregan · 14/11/2021 19:58

Pate or baked Camembert for us.

OneDayInMyLife · 14/11/2021 19:59

We eat Christmas Dinner spread out during the day so we don't get full up.

Starter at 12
Main at 3
Deserts at 6

It's so nice and relaxing.

We have soup, prawns, pate or tricolor.

Mustreadabook · 14/11/2021 21:08

I don't think that christmas lunch starter is a thing, I've never had one except in a restaurant.

Mustreadabook · 14/11/2021 21:09

Maybe if you count the chocolates...

JohnStonesMissus · 14/11/2021 21:11

We have smoked salmon terrine slice on a bed of rocket leaves with a slice of lemon for garnish or extra flavour

DeirdreRashid · 14/11/2021 21:12

Quality street

LizzieSiddal · 14/11/2021 21:14

We eat blinis with our pre lunch cocktail/champagne.

Same here. Much more relaxing than having to all sit down at the table and feels quite special.
