I have bought my BIL one of these. And there are some other quirky things in Lakeland.

Or look at Maplin electronics if he's into gadgets. My dh is endlessly fascinated by the stuff on there. He recently bought a meter which tells you how much power we're using in the house which is his latest favourite toy, see here. (I think he has the wireless one but there is the plug-in one for £10).

PatsyCline · 13/12/2007 20:22

I second Schott's Almanac. It is a marvellous and very pleasing thing.

I have already raved on another thread about Fat Face's slippers - they are groovy and my DH loves his (they have an online site).

If you have a TK Maxx locally they usually have a few very nice cashmere scarves/beautiful Italian gloves for those who like a bit of luxury.

PatsyCline · 13/12/2007 20:23

Oh, God, I must keep Dh away fronm that Maplins site. It's like electro porn (he has a case full of cables 'just in case'...)

Wheelybahhumbug · 13/12/2007 20:25

A nice bottle of wine - boring but nice.

MrsMuddle · 13/12/2007 20:29

A lovely Sophie Conran for Portmeieron jug. I saw it in J Lewis today and it was lovely or one of these nice plates or mugs designed by celebs for charity. You can get them in Papyrus card shops or on line. www.whateverittakes.org/browse.php?wid=3

MrsMuddle · 13/12/2007 20:30

Sorry - pressed send too soon. The "whatever it takes" plates and mugs are 9.99 and come in a lovely box. Ewan McGregor's one is particularly nice.

popmum · 13/12/2007 20:33

rubiks cube! a revival from the 80s!

MrsMuddle · 13/12/2007 20:33

On that site, most say that they can be preordered, but some are already available elsewhere. I bought a George Cloony mug and a Ewan McGregor plate yesterday.

He sounds like my dh (apart from the loaded bit) he says the thing he most wants from extended family are i-tunes vouchers. Says it's great fun selecting tracks and even though you could afford to do it anytime, somehow you just don't.

toastedteacake · 13/12/2007 20:52

Is he into gardening? What about a tree? treesbypost.com I bought an oak tree from them for a christening gift.

lojomamma · 13/12/2007 21:04

An animal trap in which he can die slowly. Especially if he is like mine and won't talk to his one and only nephew because, 'he doesn't do spastics'

iheartdusty · 14/12/2007 12:37

oh lojomamma

what a vile attitude

BBBee · 14/12/2007 20:22

hey franny

came on here trawling as I am stucj for DP (so are you - did you get the egypt book haha!)

so what are you getting these men then?

a bootle of champagne and a pomergrante?

lojomamma · 15/12/2007 00:01

I apologise, this was a nice thread before I posted. Yes MY bil is a prick but yours all sound lovely.

pinkspottywellies · 15/12/2007 00:08

Presents for Men has lots of gift ideas. I used the sister site Gifts for the Girls.
