Good chef's knife for dd?

I'm still pondering a good present for my 19y/o dd, and wondering whether a good chef's knife plus Japanese style cross back apron might make a nice gift. Any recommendations? (Maybe I should be asking in the cookery forum!)

Great idea. I love Global knives and they last a lifetime.

A vote for Global here too, but Zwilling are also good.
