I can't be the only one who just does stocking for kids? They're from father Christmas right?
Actually, they are from St. Nick and they are in reality for adults.

However, if you follow it in the true way they are only for single women and should be money and good to use towards a dowry.

Some cultures they are from Befana (Xmas Witch, Biblical character who couldn't follow the star, got lost and gave all the gifts she brought for baby Jesus to any child she could find along the way) but this is usually on Epiphany not Christmas day.

Stockings are just from FC to the kids here, I didn't realise it was common to do them for adults, it was never a thing in my family or DHs or my ex's
AvocadoOrange · 11/11/2021 19:32

To add to the other suggestions: toothbrush and tangerines? Same as for my son.

Prattypitel · 11/11/2021 19:35

A brainGrin.only joking

StormyTeacups · 11/11/2021 20:59

We only do a little stocking for each other normally, sweets, bottle of wine or whatever. Kids know they're from us and not FC.

I was asking more for my mum who does us all stockings as a present, she was a bit stuck. Have suggested a bottle of wine, some chocolate, snacks and BBQ rubs 😁

These Best of England travel books are really lovely. Also on 3 for 2 at the moment. I got DH a couple last year and he will be getting another couple to add to the set!

No stockings for adults round here. Bah humbug I guess.

mumof2andstillsurviving · 12/11/2021 02:19

We do them for each other, I was telling my niece once that my lipstick was in my stocking from Father Christmas. She burst out laughing t said her parents didn't get stockings so that must have been REALLY naughty

rrhuth · 12/11/2021 02:51

We get stocking type presents just not in a stocking, so it is just about presentation - this year we did talk about whether it would be nice, but suspect we won't both and just have a heap as usual.

DockOTheBay · 12/11/2021 05:09

I wouldn't bother doing a stocking for my husband if there isn't actually anything he needs. Buying stuff just for the sake of it to fill a stocking seems a bit of a waste.

rrhuth · 12/11/2021 05:12

Stocking presents are just small presents instead of one big gift. They don't have to be tat or useless - we buy each other nice food items for example, books, small clothes items.

Agreed!
MrsBertBibby · 12/11/2021 05:57

I just got a little tiny silvered glass star planter with paperwhite narcissus bulbs from waitrose for a fiver. Very pretty.

Usually get socks, a Christmas ornament, posh chocs, a little fun kitchen gadget like mini tongs or funky bag clips, and a nice shower gel or similar.

Hanswurst · 12/11/2021 06:09

Some great ideas!

We do £10 stockings. Just a bit of fun usually sweets and chocolate!
MrsBertBibby · 12/11/2021 06:43

Every human who sleeps in my house on Christmas eve gets a stocking. I bloody love stockings. My gigantic 17 year old still brings his in to open in our bed. It is the law.

Who, the 17 year old? Hell no. I did my dad one last year and he is 82.

StormyTeacups · 12/11/2021 07:10

No-one gets tat here, even the kids. Edible or consumable normally.

A pair of legs seems popular here...

northbacchus · 12/11/2021 13:19

Alcohol miniatures, socks, pants, chocolates, then fancier items of snacks/sauces/coffees/teas he likes.

Some very lucky husbands here!

JauntyJinty · 12/11/2021 13:25

The only thing I imagine a grown many wanting in stockings is legs!

Sn0tnose · 12/11/2021 13:29

We do them some years but not others. Mostly depends on whether I can remember where I put the stockings.

This year, his stocking has an ice cooling towel in a water bottle, a wallet ninja, beard oil and a new brush as his is going bald, Swedish Fish sweets, a cap for golf, dart flights, a Welsh dragon pastry cutter (he makes pasty pie), Star Wars air fresheners for the car, South Carolina bbq sauce, cherry bourbon bbq sauce, spiced pear tea (to go with an individual tea pot he wanted), Dead Mans Fingers rum miniatures, a CD mix with his favourite songs on for the car and some aftershave. I’ll get him a couple of scratch cards as well. I think I’ve forgotten a couple of bits, but it’s all stuff I know he’ll love.

BigFatLiar · 12/11/2021 13:34

Depends what he likes.

A couple of years ago (when he stopped work) I got him a belly button brush to help him contemplate his navel.

He's on a diet due to putting on lots of weight when he was ill so I get him a few posh sweets as a Christmas treat.

Not politically correct or feminist but I get him a calendar, 50s glamour style, They're drawings rather than pictures and most have more clothes on than you see in the street.
