Hoverboard recommendations

Hi folks

Our 9 year old has said she would like a hoverboard this year. I’ve had a v brief look but no idea what I’m actually looking for!

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Words of advice re buying/using one?

Thank you in advance.

I got my 9 & 7yos this for their birthdays. They love them. 9yo loves the go kart attachment, 7yo not so much, it goes a bit fast for her.

😬 yikes!

It was really just for playing about in the garden with her friends. Had no idea there might be legal issues! 🥴

Do you have somewhere you can use it? They're not allowed on public roads or public walkways/cycle paths. They're only legal to use on private land with the landowners permission

Do not buy off amazon. Crap.
Dont buy the ones with bells n whistles. Also crap.

We bought ds one last year, from an independent shop. Paidva bit more but battery lasts.

We have the one that @AliceMcK recommended, I bought it about a month ago for DS 9 birthday, it was £177 then so may go back down in price. He absolutely loves it, especially the go kart attachment, he just goes up and down the driveway on it but it’s been a big hit.

Ours are used around the house and garden. DD1 zooms up and down the driveway in hers. We let them use the hoverboard (not go cart) on the pavement when we walked to the shops for an ice cream in summer, but it’s literally a 5 min stroll and not a busy area. Not sure I’d let them on them in other public places though.

If you are planning to use it on grass you might need an all terrain one. My 9 year old loves his but I’m not sure it was worth getting one quite as expensive as we did (£300 if I remember correctly) - he doesn’t use it as much as I’d expected so I wish we’d gone for a cheaper one!

In the garden is fine but technically can’t be used anywhere other than private land. I would just make sure you don’t get a cheap Chinese knock off with dodgy batteries, I’m sure there were stories of them exploding at one point. My son vaguely wanted one at one point but due to the legal issues and worries about blowing the house up plus the expense it never happened due to my discouraging it lol and he’s moved on from wanting one now.

This is quite useful :

We bought the Sisgad one for my son. He is a older than your DC, so we didn't bother with the go kart attachment. The one we got is perfect for playing on in the garden /driveway.
