VR headsets

Opinions on this please?
DS(9) has asked for one for the last few years and I have said no because he wears glasses and it concerns me.
This year though I really cannot think of something to get him and he is still going on about these. Does anyone have one? Any recommendations?

We have an oculus which we got when my son was about 8 I think. He wears glasses and it is designed so that the headset can be worn with glasses. We loved it for a bit, it really is an amazing bit of kit. However, unfortunately the novelty wears off and ours hasn’t been used for about a year. It gives me a headache after a bit but we had such fun on simple games like ‘walk the plank’.

I’ve bought a PS4 vr for DH this Christmas. As well as the headset you’ll need the move controllers to play some (but not all) of the games.

Have a look on You Tube though, I vaguely remember seeing something about them not being recommended for children but I wasn’t really paying attention to it.

Thank you both!

Does he have a playstation? Because the now VR for Ps5 is out next year. So maybe a waste buying it this year.

My boys love their Oculus (they have the PS4 VR as well and much prefer Oculus). It was a gift last Christmas and is used all the time.

Very much a novelty that wore off quickly in our house. Provided hours of entertainment at the beginning, though!

We bought the oculus last year. They are amazing and very clever, but once the festive period was over we hardly touched it!

Thanks all, he has an xbox not a playstation.

We've had an occulus for 2 years now and it's still very much used, by me as much as ds. They're so much fun.

JeremiahStanding · 08/11/2021 12:42

Ds2 wears glasses and we have the Occulus with the insert for glasses and the normal one for Ds1. Mine do still play it, we have had them for 3 years. Mine have linked up with each other or friends and played stuff together.

I love Beat Sabre, I use it as a cardio workout. It is incredibly immersive in terms of how real everything seems. You can explore lots of things, I have sat on the ground with virtual animals getting up close and personal, stood at the Grand Canyon and flew in the helicopter with Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible.

I’d forgotten about this; I’ve only bought it this year as DH is adamant that he’s not interested in getting a ps5, but definitely something to remember if anyone else is thinking about getting one for the PlayStation.

Is it essential to have a Facebook account to be able to use the Occulus 2

AnnPerkins · 08/11/2021 13:35

DS got the Oculus Quest last Xmas and still plays with it regularly.

@Riapia yes it is unfortunately. We just set up an FB account especially for it.

Thank you Is there a VR system that doesn’t require Facebook. I definitely won’t have any SM.
AnnPerkins · 09/11/2021 09:20

I don't know about other VR. But I don't think you have to use the FB account to play the OQ. Just set one up. DS doesn't have FB at all.

Hortonhearsadoctorwho · 09/11/2021 09:22

We had a ps vr headset.
I wear glasses and it made me feel very sick and dizzy and gave me a headache, even just using it for a few minutes. Could just be me though!
Ds11 got bored quite quickly and we sold it.
