Steam train trip

I think DH would love to go for a journey on a steam train, maybe with a nice dinner and overnight stay? Does anyone have any recommendations. Budget is in the hundreds not thousands, as the only ones I've seen have been so expensive.

What sort of area would you be looking to travel from OP?

The North west/Midlands if possible, but we can catch connections to anywhere in the UK mainland.

Haven’t been on it, but the Settle to Carlisle looks like a good one, going through v nice scenery.

With a relative living close by, we’ve been on the Pickering to Whitby one, which was fun, and of course Whitby is lovely.

It goes through the N Yorks National Park, but it was v misty and murky when we did it, so saw sod all. Still good though.

The train from Fort William to Mallaig is lovely! I've not stayed in Mallaig overnight but I'm sure accommodation exists.

northernbelle.co.uk/search?departing_station=Midlands no overnights but properly posh.

Are you near the severn valley railway? They do a dining car service
