Kindle - yes or no?

I've been debating getting one for myself for far too long, I love reading but I'm not sure if a kindle would be the same for me as turning the pages of a book. But the book prices seem cheaper and I think a lot of people own them. Honestly would you recommend?

Another tip is to track kindle prices on UK.ereaderiq.com

I add books that I want to buy to my list and say what price I want to pay and I get notified when the price drops to that level. I've had some massive bargains that way.

Thanks for this info. I might add one to my Christmas list.[/quote]
I use a Kobo, I love it, one of the best gifts my husband has bought me.

My Mum really didn't like the idea of one but loves it now she has one. We both read paper books too but find an e-book really convenient, especially for holidays, travel and reading in bed.

Wow thank you all so much! Reading through your replies has been so helpful and I am officially converted - waiting for Black Friday to get my Paperwhite Grin

You can't access your library through paperwhite. I use kindle fire for that.

Notwhatiimagined · 01/11/2021 10:28

It was used for half an hour in our house. Thinking of putting it on ebay

I have the choice of seeing "all" or just "downloaded" on my Paperwhite.

Eh? I can access my full library of books through paperwhite, it's available via the home menu.

My 10th gen paperwhite gives me full access to my audible library as well.

Kanaloa · 01/11/2021 13:51

I don’t think the pp is talking about accessing the books they have on kindle, but being able to borrow from their local library, such as you can on the Libby app and many other apps depending on area by using your library card number. You can do it on your phone/iPad.

SoupDragon · 01/11/2021 14:24

Oh, an actual library.

FlipFlops4Me · 01/11/2021 16:21

I've got a Paperwhite and love it but to be honest I have all the same books sent to my phone and use the Kindle app on my phone most of the time I like that I can have other reading apps and use other formats of books on them that perhaps aren't able to be used with kindle. Best of all worlds.

FlipFlops4Me · 01/11/2021 16:22

Sorry - seem to have forgotten entirely to punctuate!

A Kobo can access Library books and give the full e-reader experience. No need for two gadgets or to read on a horrible tablet screen.

What’s a Kobo?

Quick question, I have a really old kindle. If I go now and buy a Paperwhite, can I transfer my books over to it and is it better buying one with no ads? Also is 8GB enough?

Carrie Clueless I am. Thanks so much in advance to anyone who knows!

SoupDragon · 03/11/2021 13:58

Your books are attached to your Amazon account so you can just download them again.

I'd go with No Ads.

My kindle is only 2gb I think and I've used a tiny amount of that - I do delete books from it regularly though. I have 1.1gb free at the moment which represents 16 books, a magazine and the file of my "clippings"

I have 1.1gb free and have used under 300mb which represents....

Missed a chunk out. I assume the other space is taken up by system files or something.

A different brand of e-reader.

It has the same functions as the higher model kindles but you aren't tied to Amazon. You can buy books from the Kobo store but also get free books from the public library, and from other sellers (but not Amazon).
