Qwirkle or Genius Square?

Looking to get a new game for my nearly 7yo for Christmas. Like the look of both of the above…anyone have both and can recommend a favourite?! Short game time preferred so can fit in between dealing with younger siblings! Most played with game at the minute is Labyrinth…also enjoys draughts and Trionimoes. Thanks

Qwirkle is brilliant, but can be fairly lengthy. Genius square is very quick and can be played solo, it's very addictive!

Never tried Qwirkle, but DDs love Genius Square. Its a good little challenge.

busybanana · 27/10/2021 20:53

Genius Square you can also play alone, if that appeals.

Thee we mastermind game (can also get a nice wooden version) is good as you can fill in a row of colours then go off and do something quickly whilst they put the pegs in to say you are correct or not -works well with multitasking

Love them both. Genius square is quicker tho. Qwirkle is more akin to shape scrabble for me and can take a while. Both are fan tho.

We have Qwirkle and it's great. Never tried Genius Square, so might get it after this thread.

Qwirkle is brilliant & you can play with a double set rather than the usual triple to shorten the game.

We don't have genius square but this is a similar (solo) idea & has given hours of fun/frustration.

We love both those. And labyrinth.

Other short two player games we've enjoyed are Too many monkeys. And, Rat a tat cat

Thanks all! Sounds like either will be great! @Crackery forgot Rat a tat cat is another fave!! Off to look up too many monkeys….

Dobble
Code names
Diamant
Pairzi

If you like Rat a Tat Cat, Sleeping Queens is made by same company and was a favourite at that age in our house.

Annexlife · 27/10/2021 21:53

Cheating moths
Cockroach poker
And favourite at moment is Dragonwood, another great game from Gamewright (rat a tat cat and sleeping Queens maker).
