Skateboard and rollerskates???

We've got the 9 yo a skateboard for Christmas but I've seen some really nice roller skates that she would LOVE. Because they look great rather than a huge desire to skate.

She doesn't have experience with either but asked for a skateboard when the Olympics was on.

Would it be silly to get both leaving one redundant or are they very different experiences?! Asking as a total non skater of all varieties Grin

My daughter has both. Got roller skates as a lockdown boredom gift and then a skateboard for her birthday because she saw lots on skateboards at skatepark where we took her on her roller skates. She has both and does both. Neither is redundant

Get them for her they are completely different things to master my dd has scooter roller blades and roller boots and is getting a skate board 😁

This is what I wanted to hear! I think they will have the wow factor! Now wondering whether to do skates or blades...I'm sure blades were faster on the rubbish pavement as a kid but the proper roller boots look so much nicer!

@WinoAnon My dd 10 has blades they are good but you do need some balance and they take some getting used to but I think they are brilliant . We have these blades www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/outdoor/rollerskates/inline-rollerskates/adjustable-pink-inline-led-skates-uk2-4/p/198266

Thanks for the recommendation! Think blades will have more life in them as they all appear to be adjustable.

I think roller blades are easier to get used to just rolling around on but you can't do all the tricks and dancing type moves that they do on the 4 wheeled skates on Instagram so bear that in mind.

My kids both went straight to blades - they learned at the local roller disco and the people that run it recommended blades. They picked it up easily and also picked up ice skating very quickly too. I think skateboarding is different
interest and both gifts woukd not be incompatible.

I just ordered some gorgeous skates from Skatehut, kind of want them myself Grin. They also have lovely matching bags. I’m not sure how well my dd will take to them but for £33 I’m taking the risk. I’m going to try booking us into a roller disco after Xmas.
