Retro baubles

Has anyone seen any baubles covered in what I can only describe as cotton threads, that look silky.
We had them in the 70’s, perhaps left over from the 60’s, and I’d like to get some if they still exist.

eBay have lots of actual vintage baubles, many like you describe.

Ooh I posted a similar thread a while back. I found a load on ebay but havent bought any yet. Ebay is a good place to start.

I was hoping for new ones, if they exist !

I didnt have much luck finding new ones.

PurpleDaisies · 19/10/2021 21:28

I got some like that from a garden centre a year or two ago. Not helpful but they do exist!

Oh I remember these! We had them in red and green, and the red dye must have been a bit crap because they faded on one side where they’d been in the window.

I rescued these baubles from my mum when she was throwing them out about ten years ago! I love them they make me happy and I vividly remember the day she brought them home even if she doesn't!
They are placed on my tree every Xmas although my eldest dd doesn't think much of my old fashioned tat!!

Blankspace4 · 19/10/2021 23:25

My parents still have these from the 80s. So nostalgic. They have a particular fusty smell to them too ❤️

MrsElf · 19/10/2021 23:47

I got a box of about 20 in mixed sizes from either home bargains or b&m a couple of years ago but haven’t seen any this year. Charity shops might be worth looking round? They used to be very common!

Thanks everyone

Tiger had them last year. I bought lots. I don’t think they have their Xmas stock in yet, but it won’t be long.

Sn0tnose · 20/10/2021 08:04

I think they’re called Satin wrapped baubles.

I saw some at the weekend in Dobbies Garden Centre (I think they’re all over the UK) but they weren’t what I think of as particularly Christmassy colours.

Etsy are good for vintage ones. John Lewis did some a couple of years ago but haven’t repeated the range. If you want new, I think it’s a case of keeping an eye out for companies picking up on retro trends.

Google silk thread christmas baubles

mogtheexcellent · 20/10/2021 15:29

I got mine from paperhase

DappyApple · 20/10/2021 17:37

I’ve picked up lots of the vintage ones in charity shops and eBay, but also have some that look to be from Paperchase. But the colours aren’t the same as the vintage ones they’re a bit more ‘modern’!

Stroan · 20/10/2021 18:05

Sainsburys did some last year, I'm also looking for more this year.
