Glue guns

Does anyone know about glue guns.

I'm thinking of getting dd aged 11 a glue gun craft book and the equipment to go with it.

Does anyone know if it needs to be a hot glue gun compared to the cool. And is 7 or 11mm glue sticks more popular? I presume a heat proof mat is wise. What about finger guards? Are plug in guns better than cordless?

Thanks for any wisdom

Have a look on Pinterest - Glue Gun Tips. Lots of safety tips and ideas. Just remember glue guns and the melted glue get extremely hot and can burn skin. Close supervision is recommended.

@Borris Don't get a hot one, they are like molten lava, I use tools (ie lolly pop sticks) to hold things together as it burns and I'm an adult. A cool one should be fine. My hot glue gun takes 11mm glue sticks and the cool one 7mm. I think lots of cool glue guns are the mini ones so 7mm sticks.

I would try to get a plug in as it retains the temperature better. Mine does unplug but I keep it plugged in. I can't recommend mine as it came from a floristry warehouse. As for finger guards it depends how clumsy she is Grin

Definitely need a mat as when you rest it down it can still leak glue.

I'm in my 40s and still burn myself, but not horrendously 😅. The smaller ones are easier to use for kids.

Thanks for the advice. Ok cool it is. Don't want any burnt fingers. I've seen some coloured 7mm glue sticks which look good

I'll just add, I've got a cool glue gun at home and it's still bloody hot when you get it on your fingers so imagine like pp has said, the hot must be like lava!!
