So who has started their big clean/clearout for christmas??

I started yesterday. 3 skip runs. Another load in the car - 4 bin bags out of eldest ds room.
Hall coat cupboard sorted.
Still have to go through the rest of the toys again so will do that on a day all dc are out.
Will be going through freezers over weekend to see what needs taken out .
Feel so much better clearing crap out. Means all i need to do nearer time is pull all furniture out and clean before decs go up.
(I do this regularly anyway)
Might have a clear out of kitchen cupboards this week too. I did a few months back and organised everything into plastic baskets so easy to find things

I have started doing my most hated job, Tax Return, getting everything ready for the accountant.

I have sorted all the piles of paper into last year, 2020-2021, two files , personal stuff and property related.
Everything to do with 21-22 just bunged together awaiting this time next year. 'Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof', or something.

I feel very virtuous.

We are doing a Big Clean this week because my fil is coming to stay over half term. I am hoping this will make the Christmas Big Clean easier.

We are busy last two weeks of November so last be scheduled it for December 4!
We out our deccies up quite late... probably the 17th this year, so should work well.

We don't have loads to go through because we had another house guest a few weeks ago, so sorted loads then.

I absolutely love it when everything is pristine and cozy.

coodawoodashooda · 16/10/2021 13:03

Im starring tomorrow!

FourTeaFallOut · 16/10/2021 13:03

I'm starting Monday with a TOMM bootcamp to keep me honest. It's normally a fairly organised house but we were busy with an extension this year and, well, it needs a more robust tidy before we all just start seeing around the mess for good.

Opal8 · 16/10/2021 13:24

Me! :)
7 bin bags of teddies, nerf guns, toys and games sent to a local charity.
Just had bathroom and wc renovated so they are nice and clean and organised.
I've wrapped some Xmas gifts and sorted out my wrapping paper, gift bags and cards etc
I like everything done for the start of Advent so I can relax and enjoy the season
Lots of cleaning to do and the kitchen needs a thorough clean
I'm planning on decorating on 1st Sunday of Advent as usual then dh is away with work for a week :(
Ds2 is having a bedroom revamp for his Xmas present so we have a mural wall to do and new flooring at the beginning of November.

Hairwizard · 16/10/2021 14:28

I plan on doing decs first sat/sun in dec aswell.
Elddest ds and the twins need to swap rooms as eldest currently in bigger room. I might make a start on that after halloween. Ds room cleared out yest so just a matter of stripping whats left of the wallpaper (paper on one wall and hes been peeling bits off 🙄) and giving it a lick of paint. Twins room doesnt need painting.

I did it earlier in the year as we decorated for a big family visit at the end of the summer. The hard part is keeping on top of it now.

Burnerphone21 · 16/10/2021 15:00

I've cleared the living room so the kids could do the Halloween decs. Good idea scheduling Xmas decs. I can't do Xmas unt after dd2 birthday in November.

Kids room needs gutting it's grim up there but the purge might include the big Barbie house and I will cry!

Oysterbabe · 16/10/2021 16:50

I need to find a time to do it when the kids aren't around. They will swear that all the old crap is their favourite thing ever.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2021 16:53

We've been sorting bits and bobs as we go along this year. We still have a little more to go.

I'll deep clean / tidy the front room and dining room before the trees go up. The rest of the house will be done once I've finished for Christmas, but the kids are still in school.

Hairwizard · 16/10/2021 18:29

@Oysterbabe yip mine were out aswell for same reason lol.

Same again this week . Hopefully all will be done by end of november so i can enjoy december properly.

I've just cleared out all wardrobes and airing cupboard...
Toy boxes to be done on a day DS is at nursery...
Will do a good pull out and clean in half term one day then again weekend before tree goes up

coodawoodashooda · 16/10/2021 19:30

Any good tips on being ruthless when chucking stuff?

friggingnora · 16/10/2021 19:38

I've started mine too. Inside windows, decluttering room by room, clean the grouting etc. I like to enjoy December so I want it all done by mid-November. This week I'm going to clean the carpets.

I like the Kondo method for getting rid of things. Things have served their purpose and can be let go.

Franticbutterfly · 23/10/2021 00:30

This past week I have spent quite a lot of time sorting through the bedrooms of DD2 and DD3, I still haven't gone through all their toys but 4 large bin bags went. I've also sorted their wardrobes and cleaned their rooms. I have a couple of bags to go to charity...I might even do more this coming week.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/10/2021 01:09

I put two big bags out clothes out to Charity Collection last week.
One bag was coats - couple of mine ,couple of DDs , few of DS
DS is a little blighter for getting rid of things , I made him try them on and if they were too small they went . He protested "I wear that"
I do your bloody laundry , young man, and I haven't seen that in the wash for months
My Mum is a hoarder and I get the feeling he's going the same way .

I moved one of the cats' trays , might be able to get rid of it (to the shed) They have a massive tray (its an underbed storage box so huge) and don't use the small one , but I'll play it cautious

Cleaned the bathroom Halo

Emptied a few ££ into the Internet for DD present ( I was going to book a Christmas Market trip , but it was £££ and I knew the money could be better spent . So I did , spent on DD )

doodlejump1980 · 24/10/2021 08:49

I’m planning on deep-cleaning one room at a time in the run-up to Christmas. A big ruthless declutter, bin/recycle/donate. It will get done!!

Nidan2Sandan · 24/10/2021 16:06

We moved house in the summer so thankfully dont have to do much of a clear out as we did it already.

But we have a much bigger house now so it's going to need a good clean as tbh I'm struggling to keep up with it right now Confused

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/10/2021 17:46

I've made a start

Sorted through most of the toys to donate

Cleaned out the food and snack cupboards in the kitchen so I can start buying bits for Xmas

Cleared out the cupboard of doom so I can start storing presents in there

BigGreen · 24/10/2021 20:14

Yep, I'm about 3/4 of the way through. Just selling stuff now which I hate!

Hairwizard · 24/10/2021 22:21

Havent managed much else this last week or so yet. Ive 2 high chairs needing a good clean before selling. Ive dts coats from last winter washed and ready to donate. Will need to go through toy bins again as they are looking fuller than i remember lol.
