Carol singers? Yay or nay?

Inspired by last nights cheeky little fckers, who when I said I had no money on me (I don't keep any in the house, the temptation to spend is too great!) then told me that they would take Ds' Santa stop here light or my flashing LEDS up the stairs as payment!!!
I prefer to go to an organised carol service and donate to the charity or whatever cause.
Not the begging little sh
ts who demand payment at my door!

So, do you answer the door to them? Do you make them sing a whole song? Request your favourite?
How do you deal with them if you don't like them?

If they don't do three-part harmonies, and descant on the last verse, they can feck orf!

I don't get carol singers round my door.

If I got them I would make them sing a real carol

Blandmum · 09/12/2007 19:03

Real carol singers who sing a real carol. yes.

Tone deaf grunting of the first line of 'We wish you a merry Xmas' with hand out.....bugger orf!

We have an impressive group of carol singers who come round collecting for charity - they don't ring doorbells but rely on the goodwill of people to open their doors and offer money. We also have the other sort of carol singers who I usually give 50p to in the hope that they will go away - quickly.

i have never had carol singers round my door. never ever. i do love carol singers in shopping centres though.

I get my dh to answer the door to them.

He terrifys the poor children and demands that they sing most of a carol to them, gives them 50p and they clear off.

Once the word goes round about our house, we don't get any more visiting.

We had a group of teenagers round last year who sang a a couple of lines of rudolf the red nosed reindeer (wrong) and stood there waiting for some money!!

Is it just me or do teenagers try and find any excuse to get money lately?

On halloween I had some asking for a penny for the guy so I gave them 2p and their faces I was surprised not to have a brick through my windows.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 09/12/2007 19:32

nay
even IF they are godo its just cringey as they sing on and on and you are there wiht a rictus grin on your face thinking "I am letting all the heat out"

pinetreedog · 09/12/2007 19:33

hadn't thought about that. You would indeed be stood there in the cold for quite a while.

Ha ha!
I just had a knock at the door, and inspired by this thread - and the fact that I know them from school - I made two 14-yr-old boys sing several verses of We wish you a merry Christmas ...

... Then realised I had no change whatsoever

I told them to seek me out at school tomorrow!

pantoinghousewife · 09/12/2007 19:56

We're so terrifying we never get them, after reading the OP, am quite relieved.
