This is genius!!! I was looking for fill your own crackers today but couldn't find any designs I liked, and was debating just using some lovely pre-filled ones I have left over from years ago. Now I can just pop my extra bits (lottery scratch card and christmas chocolate) in them and use some of my huge ribbon stash to re-tie them. Thank you!!

dementedma · 14/10/2021 17:50

They live in France so I dont see them very often, but I got over in May to say goodbye. Daughter is sporty, a good swimmer, training to be a midwife. They live very rurally. I dont want to look like I'm stepping in as mum, but wanted her to have something to open that would be from her mum...if that makes sense. Sorry to bring the thread down! I always called them "my frogs" and that was a running joke and I used to send lots of frog themed bits and pieces, which they all loved.

@dementedma

Gift for young woman, without her mum this Christmas? My friend died in May this year. This will be her family's first Christmas without her. Would like to get something symbolic for 20 year old daughter, without being maudlin or making her even more sad! Any thoughts?
I'm not sure if it would make her sad, but what about a personalised bauble in memory of her mum that she can hang on the tree every year?

There were some in the Lisa Angel sale that a pp mentioned earlier for £5 each.

Minionbums · 14/10/2021 18:24

Bauble is a good idea, plus if you get one for yourself too you could say you’ve got them for you both to remember her, if that puts your mind at rest about stepping in? Which you aren’t, but you’d be putting the focus on your lovely friend x

dementedma · 14/10/2021 18:40

Ooh, thank you. Thats a nice idea

Purpleheadgirl · 14/10/2021 18:44

@dementedma depending upon budget, what about a nice fob watch for her uniform..... could have a small engraving on the back so her mum is looking over her whilst she is a midwife

17 pages already 🙈
I just popped back on to say I’ve opened my second bottle of the Romanian wine & it’s actually very pleasant. Nicer than the first one which was okayish just a bit dry for my tastes.

I have ordered Christmas decorations for my children and others for over 25 years from a small business called Stork and Cradle. Think it’s in the Lincolnshire area. Rob and sue Roebuck are the names of the people who run it. They are so accommodating and with enough time I am sure they could do you a couple of frogs, one for each of you, as a previous poster mentioned. I have had a butterfly made for a friend who’s mum had died, a star for a friend who lost a son. They are lovely decorations and not expensive at all. Postage is free too. Well worth a look at. They are great, inexpensive token gifts as well.

@Daisy829 I find the second bottle of any wine generally tastes better than the first. Grin
