Hiking hamper

I'd like to do a hiking hamper for my dad and his partner, what things would be good to include?

You could include good quality hiking socks, gloves, water bottle/flask, mini first Aid kit, compass, headlamp/torch (you can get beanie hats with built in light), knife/multi tool, binoculars, & a backpack to act as the “hamper”.

I just googled hiking essentials & some of these were included.

OS maps, change for carparks, haribo sweets, trail mix, handwipes, spare shoelaces, tarpaulin, sandwich bags, notebook and pencil, whistle.

It's free but perhaps encourage them to download the app what3words We live near hills and a few accidents have been attended to quickly using the app to locate people. Sorry if you already know, I just think it's a great idea.

Hike bars (think they are Aldi brand), but I would check what equipment they have if possible eg waterproof map case is great but you only need one

If they're keen hikers they may have quite a lot of this already.

Yes... obsolete if you've got eg Memory Map on your phone.

You can never have too many hiking socks. Lonely planet have a great guide book on the best day walks in Britain if they don't have it already. A nice waterproof picnic blanket could come in handy for day walks. Boot buddy the cleaning tool is useful for getting mud off their boots before getting in the car/ house.

Nice walking socks
decent gloves & beanie.
Merino baselayer if they like winter walks.
A book - 100 walks with pubs at the end/ great views - something like that.
Foot repair cream.
Non greasy face SPF30 - I use one called frezyderm which is fab
Lip balm.
Water canteen.
Snack bars/Kendal mint cake

I'd put it in a light rucksack, rather than a hamper

If your dad is already a hiker he is already likely to have first aid kits , maps head torches, etc..
Maybe check before you buy any kit.
However I spotted something quite good that isnt kit that I'm buying for my friend I'll see if I can find it and post.

I cant find what I'm looking for but go onto Etsy and put hiking into the search bar. Theres all sorts that's quite interesting there.
I think that is going to be a better bet than generic kit that he should already have if he is a keen hiker.

Kendal mint cake is so over rated and I dont know anyone that actually likes it. It's just basically a slab of sugar!
