We’re a bit stumped as to what to buy our 8 month old daughter for Christmas.
What have you bought your 8 month old that they really love?

Jumperoo if you don't already have one? Ballpit? At home soft play?

DoucheCanoe · 04/10/2021 02:19

Mine got a Leapfrog picnic basket door her first Christmas (9m) and it was played with until she was 4/5.

Musical instruments, anything with lights and some chewable toys went down well!

birdglasspen · 04/10/2021 02:25

Books. Enjoy not having too many toys at this stage!

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 04/10/2021 03:02

Cardboard boxes and moeny in her account! Grin

She loved the boxes and now loves her account!

We bought ds some of the Early Learning Happyland sets, we started with the farm & the Zoo, my mum bought him a telephone & a fire engine that had loads of buttons to press that made noises. Ds was 11 months old on his first Christmas, he loved anything that made noises or had flashing lights.

Purplesparkle34 · 04/10/2021 03:36

My daughter will be 9 months old at Christmas and I have bought her a busy board, some books and a few bits of clothing so far.

Namechangedzzz · 04/10/2021 03:55

@TheOriginalSweatyBetty I made them a photo boardbook with all our members of the family (a page each) from photobox.co.uk

It was a favourite of theirs for ages and it was special because no-one else would have done it and they can keep it forever (if they want!)

My son is 9 months but he has loved his jumperoo, fisher price cookie jar shape sorter thing and something called bright starts pop and giggle pond pal. He LOVES it! Also anything that lights up and makes noise Grin

SeasonFinale · 04/10/2021 07:34

Just don't buy a lot. They are too young to notice or care.

chesterelly · 04/10/2021 08:03

My DD1 got a high chair for her first Xmas (she was only 4 months). We sat her in it in front of the Xmas tree and took pictures. My DM bought her (& subsequently DS & DD2) a Paddington bear. DS was 10 months, I think he got a ride on Fireman Sam fire engine. I actually can't remember what we got DD2Blush

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 04/10/2021 08:12

We got a small soft rocking elephant for our dd who was a similar age on her first Christmas, it has a seat with back and strap. She was just old enough to make it move by wiggling her legs. She's nearly 4 and still sometimes uses it now.

MrsPToBe123 · 04/10/2021 08:21

I'll have an 8 month old too so following for ideas but so far I have bought my son a shape sorter, Tomy squeaky eggs (they come highly recommended on Mumsnet) and a few books. I plan to buy a small backpack from somewhere like Jojo maman bebe too so he has one for nursery when he goes. May as well buy some useful stuff!! If relatives ask for ideas, I'll probably ask for clothes.

Caspianberg · 04/10/2021 09:32

Ds was 8 months last Xmas. Biggest hit has been Iglu soft play. He still uses daily 10 months on

LowlyTheWorm · 04/10/2021 09:37

My dgd is coming up for 8 months now. She enjoys clapping things together, has just started banging a small wooden drum with a stick. Likes the tomy eggs to empty out and clap with. Enjoys bells or shaking toys like a percussion egg, small maracas etc. She is mobile so too old for a jumparoo now. She likes cars as she spins the wheels and she also enjoys crinkly books and a lovely series of books called “where is mr/Mrs animal-name” which have felt flaps instead of card ones. Available at Asda and Amazon for around £4.

TheOriginalSweatyBetty · 04/10/2021 09:58

Thanks everyone so much for the suggestions.
I’ll look at them all. We have bought lot’s of books for DD as she loves them so they will make nice stocking fillers. I’ll definitely get a shape sorter.
I like the fact that a lot of your DC’s still enjoy playing with toys from when they were younger too.

Absolute favourites - VTEC crawl n learn ball, stacking cups and stacking rings, and musical books

SeasonFinale · 04/10/2021 10:37

Another thing to consider is when is their birthday. If also a winter birthday maybe buy a summer or outside toy to put away until later such as sandpit/paddling pool/mini bike etc.

Burgerqueenbee · 04/10/2021 10:57

DD will be 6 months at Christmas but have got her:
Tomy squeaking eggs
Ring stacker
O-ball frog
Light up bath jellyfish
Bath watering can
Musical wobbling penguin
Sea animal stacking blocks

My sister is getting her the cookie pot shape sorter, and mil will probably rock up with the whole of Santa's toy factory Blush

Lyonesse2020 · 04/10/2021 12:46

Child number 1 got a playpen (which was loved, but loathed by child number 2 some years later). Child number 2 got a cot mattress.

bubblebath62636 · 04/10/2021 13:03

Mine will be 7 months on chriatmas.

We're getting her 2 things:

Jumparoo
Baby Walker (not the sit in type).

My mum is getting her highchair, MIL a cotbed and she will have toys from others too.

I wouldn't buy much op!

mam0918 · 04/10/2021 16:39

TheOriginalSweatyBetty · 04/10/2021 19:23

Thank you for all the suggestions this is so helpful.

Just in case this is useful for anyone. I’ve just been to Sainsbury’s and bought a Ninky Nonk train for DD supposedly (it’s more for me 😂). It was £6 reduced from £12. It’s for her birthday next year as it’s an older age range.
