How does Father Christmas get in these days?

To my mind he comes down the chimney but have seen references to special keys presumably so he can let himself in the front door.

We've always gone with the chimney despite having a gas fire (as my parents did, I never questioned it!). Ds1 is nearly 6 and does tend to want logical explanations, he questioned us a couple of years ago about it. Maybe he'd be more satisfied with a key if that is what the general consensus is nowadays. Or we can blag it with "it's magic, don't question the magic, son".

We didn't have a chimney growing up, when I asked how he got in DF told me he turns to smoke, like a genie, and comes in the keyhole.

DF also went out in the middle of the night after it started snowing one year and used a scaffold board to leave sleigh marks on the lawn.

We used to leave brandy out with the mince pies (a tradition I have proudly continued Wink) that may have had something to do with the late night enthusiasm!

Always chimney. I think changing stories confuses children too much and puts doubts in their heads. Watching Christmas movies is great to show them how santa gets in without a chimney, in the first Santa Clause movie there is a perfect scene when Tim Allen first becomes santa and has to deliver to a house with no chimney.

I think I’ve copied the link correctly

He wasn't a very nice Santa Sad.

@Lockdownbear

He wasn't a very nice Santa Sad.
He gets better as the movie goes on. The 3rd movie is my DDs favourite.

We have a magic key that we leave on the door step and then Santa posts it back through the letterbox - we don't even have a chimney/flue so we had to do it this way when we moved from the house with a fire.

We don't have a fire and live in a flat so we have a special Santa key that he uses to get in. My DD makes sure it is hung up on the door so Santa can get in.

At my Mums he comes down the chimney. We don't have a chimney or fireplace so we have a magic key.
It was given to my family by a boy who stopped believing in santa so didn't need the key any more, but wanted to give it to someone else to enjoy which I think is so sweet. We will pass it on when our girls are older.
