I’ve got retired in laws to buy for and they’ve got to that life stage where they’ve pretty much got everything they want. I’d love some ideas of things you have bought for older people which are original, not stereotypically ‘elderly’ but also aren’t too wacky either! They can still get out and about so experience ideas good too but we have given lots of afternoon teas, meals out and hotel stays in the past.

The buyagift website has a Happy Christmas gift where they can choose their own experience. www.buyagift.co.uk/experience-boxes/smartbox-by-buyagift/happy-christmas-experience-box-br-11459981.aspx

I would like to put together some goodies (with a high calorific content & easy to eat or snack on) for someone whose dentures are playing up.

Probably not too alcoholic.

Anyone got any good ideas?

I am wondering about M and S liquid centre salted caramels.

Hot chocolate sachets might be an idea possibly, though apparent warm cocoa was never a big family thing.

We might try some out at half term and send more

I don't need any more tat around the place but am always delighted to receive anything edible from Fortnum & Masons or Harrods Food Hall (makes me feel spoilt) or a Jo Malone candle as they are always beautifully wrapped. Or a posh bottle of something alcoholic (but not gimmicky). Cashmere gloves or scarf are always appreciated. No to magazine subscriptions or theatre tickets or NT vouchers but that's probably just me.

If there are grandchildren they might like some nice framed photos or even a professional photographer session with family. Kids drawings can be made into amazing personalised jewellery these days which is quite fun. My mum always appreciates her favourite fancy (expensive!) chocolates and my dad his favourite whisky! My parents also quite like some of the personalised things available on notonthehighstreet - like my dad is into Masterchef so I got him his own personal Masterchef apron for example, and my mum loved a personalised notebook I got for her. We also sometimes buy them paintings.

A nice picture? You can buy framed prints or photos of an ariel view of their house! Or a painting of a beloved pet maybe?

Something for the house like an unusual lamp, rug, ornament...

We got my dad an exercise bike last year and he uses it everyday!
