Any advantages to the kids version I'm missing except the funkier design and kids unlimited subscription? The safety features mentioned cam be installed on the normal one

Trying to work out if the extra £10 is worth it (and whether a nearly 9yo will want a panda or tiger in a year or so time!)

Not to sound like a nutter but I wouldn’t want a listening device in my child’s room at all!

Thatswhathappens · 26/09/2021 09:26

My girls have normal ones in their rooms, you can put the safety features on the normal ones.

DD got a normal Alexa when she was 10 and it runs on DH's Amazon account. You just have to add safety features like we have on our one.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/09/2021 10:00

At 9 years old, if you are going for one at all, I'd go with the normal one.

DoucheCanoe · 26/09/2021 10:01

I've got my 9yo a normal one for Christmas.

Theunamedcat · 26/09/2021 10:03

What safety features do you need? I've stopped it from buying stuff (because of me) all they do is get her to fart and miaow occasionally help with homework

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/09/2021 10:06

Voice ordering is disabled on the two we already have (kitchen and 10yos bedroom). Plus the profanity filter. Kids skill enabled. So we don't need it already set up for kids.

So full answer... I'm not missing anything, a normal one is fine at 8/9yo.

Thank you.

Dd (11) has an Echo Show but prior to that had a normal dot, so yes the normal one is fine at that age. I do think though that the Panda one is super cute and might get one for my own room ☺

Stompythedinosaur · 26/09/2021 14:00

My dc have had the normal ones for years with no problems. They mainly seem to use them for making fart noises.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 26/09/2021 14:53

My DDs have them in their rooms, just normal ones. They love listening to their music and audio books on them.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/09/2021 15:11

The main reason I looked at the Kids ones... was how cute the Panda is. Its her second favourite animal.

But I think the normal one will have more longevity.
