we usually have Ampleforth Abbey pear brandy as our Advent treat- a measure to sip alongside good coffee and annas ginger thins, once we're in for the day, throughout December- shutters closed, Advent candle on, light the fire, and just ....aahhh......

their pear brandy is rich, mellow and sweet, with the lovely warming kiss brandy gives- we so look forward to it ( daren't buy it outside December or we would be total alcoholics!)

Ampleforth Abbey shop is closed, and their online shop isnt offering pear brandy... what can I buy instead?

Or there's Slivovitz (Plum) which is mellow and almondy/vanilla according to Google . I know DH has bought it in the past , cannot remember where

Have you tried Seven Tails brandy?
It's so drinkable and I think tastes very festive!!

@70isaLimitNotaTarget any chance you or your DH could remember the name as my DH loves Calvados

Rocking its Somerset Royale , ( I think the Calvados name is protected like Champagne so can only be used in France )

DH enjoyed it Xmas Grin )

Try making your own bramble brandy. Blackberries are abundant just now.

You need a bottle of cheapish brandy, some blackberries and some sugar.

Empty the bottle. Fill it about a third full with blackberries, add sugar to approx another third (I use a bit less than that but it's personal taste), then fill it back up with brandy.

If you do it now, it will be perfect by Christmas. (Remember to turn the bottle about once a week or so.)

Calvados is all French, from Normandy. It isn't all apple brandy, however. A good Calvados Domfrontais is my favourite, and is at least 30% pear brandy (although usually higher) by law.
