We bought DD9 a karaoke Microphone for her birthday. You can play songs on it through Bluetooth and sing along. £15 on ebay.

The big gifts I'm looking at for my 8yo are a Switch and an Oodie. No final decisions yet though. Last year a hovercart was a big success, as was a tie dye set with a load of white t-shirts, Amelia Fang and Mr Gum books (there's a new book out by the author of Amelia Fang called Rainbow Grey which she also really liked) and a my generation doll.

Snuzzle · 08/09/2021 16:00

My 7 year old has asked for a switch this year. I’m also getting her some Lego friends, a tie dye kit and a stunt scooter then a few small gifts. I’m also thinking about a telescope because she’s really into space right now.
She got a new bike, some craft sets and lol dolls for her birthday.

Last year dd (9) enjoyed.
Lol omg dolls.
Barbie dolls and big selection of outfits (Facebook marketplace!).
Games - jenga, payday, catventures, the dog game, top trumps, egged on, bugs in the kitchen, no more llamas, exploding kittens.
Books - particularly the illustrated harry potter, a scratch and sniff Harry potter book.
New backpack from hype.
Cuddly llama Teddy, cuddly rainbowcorns.
Echo dot for her room.
Nintendo 2DS (she got it at 5 but still loves it, shes too clumsy for a switch yet!).
Crafty sets - scratch art, colouring books.
Baking kits - cookies, cakes. Usually these are in her stocking.
Dressing up - last year was descendants and jasmine.

This year we are thinking,
Hairdressing head (proper one) as shes really got into hair styling.
Fur coat as hers has seen better days!
Harumika styling mannequin.
Beauty box - face masks, nail varnish, lip balms, Bath bombs.
A few puzzles.
Some blind bag llamas.
A cuddly toy, book, game.
Some fidget toys for her stocking.

I was thinking about getting some for my daughter she will be 8 next year
Piplette · 10/09/2021 22:03

I'm planning to cut down this year and get fewer gifts that dd (7) will actually use - I could sell you barbies, polly pocket, lol dolls, sylvanian families etc. DD barely looks at them.

Currently on the list is a keyboard with headphones, jewellery box, new earrings, bath bombs, happy self journal, books, clothes, possibly a refurbished laptop, a rainbocorn and a Hatchimal pixie flyer.

I'm doing the same, trying to cut right back on non essentials and just buy what she will actually use. Not cute things I think she will like but never touch after Christmas day! And avoiding things like new blanket, hot water bottle as she has enough already. And even though she would like another, she doesn't need them!
NoWordForFluffy · 11/09/2021 07:06

8 year old DD will get:

Lego - Minecraft / Friends
Second Joy-Con for the Switch
Books - David Walliams / Tom Fletcher / JK Rowling
Glow in the dark angler fish duvet set
Spider slippers

NoWordForFluffy · 11/09/2021 07:08

Posted too soon.

There's a Rocket and Rose personalised t shirt as well.

I then need to look at her list (my Christmas-mad kids did their lists during the summer holiday without prompting!) to see if there's anything else on there for 1 more present of both big and small sizes.

KMBM107 · 11/09/2021 07:53

Started making a list for us and family my 8 year old DD has just got into Harry Potter and has asked for
HP Lego - have got the Great Hall set put away and will get the whomping willow set
HP invisibility cloak
HP wand, cloak, sorting hat
HP Tom riddle diary
Books - next HP one, Tom Gates, horrible histories ect
Roblox gift card and maybe a T-shirt/hoody
Polly pockets
A new Barbie and lol dolls (she has already got a large collection and still plays with sister but this dying down so will get 1 or 2 bits but not too much in comparison with other years)
Switch games -
Twister and guess who games
Then some little lips glosses/perfumes ect

Considering - a shared Barbie dreamhouse with her younger sister who’s 5
Merlin annual pass (we live about an hour away from chessington, legoland and London attractions) as a family gift

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/09/2021 08:02

My 8yos idea list currently has...

  • an Echo Dot (for music alarms and joining in the household announcements. Her elder sister has one)
  • a tea cup, saucer and pot set
  • something giraffe related for her room
  • HP lego
  • Roman mysteries DVDs
  • next two Adventures on Trains books
  • Illustrated Goblet of Fire
  • shes currently trying g to decide between the HP lego or Lego friends advent calenders

I also have a 10yo DD, so drowning in preteen girl items.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/09/2021 08:03

Just remembered... also considering s Meet the Animals experience at the local zoo, Nd National Geographic Kids subscription

Marni83 · 11/09/2021 08:11

I’m getting sylvanian families, which she plays with every single day and has done so for last 5 years - I kid you not!!

Premium fan club membership to sylvanian families

Insta camera and a load of accessories

Tickets to see Wicked the musical and overnight stay in London with me

And then lots of little bits - stationary, nail polish, books.

I buy very carefully. Spend a lot but absolutely nothing that I haven’t thought about, good quality and know she’ll enjoy.

Otherwise end up with a load of glittery plastic that is of interest until the new year!
