I know from reading a few threads that some of you already have your tree up, but I just bought mine on Sunday.

I wasn't planning to put it up until the 14th though as I want it to not be bald by Christmas. I have bought a noble fir this year.....apparently they don;t go bald as easily...Has anyone had one?? is it true?

I've sawn a bit off the bottom and got it standing in a bucket of water at the moment outside......do you think it will take up much water??

won't it be a bit skeletal by christmas eve if it has no roots?

I think you have to top up the water daily with real trees? It might be different if it's outside, i.e. central heating wont dry it out etc.

I'm no expert tho. I'm not putting mine up for at least another week or two!

vacua - i assumed that it won't be as the garden centre has them all lined up outside and they'll be there till Christmas being sold. i did get a tree one year with roots, and it didn't last any longer than the ones without. Am hoping that the variety it is will help....iyswim

The stand i have for it hs a water resevoir so i will put water in it when it comes inside....will have to fill the rest of teh stand up with sand for stability i think.

oh yeah, of course - it should be totally fine then!

So is it ok to buy a tree and put it say in the shed in water for a week?

hoarsewhisperer · 03/12/2007 11:46

should be rudolph. The only reason I have bought it now is that I find it I wait till the middle of Dec, there is almost no choice left and I end up with an asymmetrical tree with gaps....and i am VERY anal about things being symmetrical.

Same here, I was also thinking that as we don't have children this weekend it would be good to get the tree as we can fold down the back seats of the car, then decorate it the following weekend with the children.

Thanks
