Luxury Christmas Splurges

Anyone have anything they totally splurge on at Christmas? Maybe it's the most authentic looking Christmas tree, the most amazing turkey, an extremely expensive advent calendar, champagne etc?

Oh I forgot about drinks...DH is in charge of that. We don’t spend huge amounts but we get cognac, a couple of whiskey and some baileys, and some good wines. Sigh now I want a drink.

Ninkanink · 31/08/2021 18:59

Grrrr whiskies? That doesn’t look right...meh a couple of nice ones anyway!

Peachee · 31/08/2021 18:59

Place marking love a bit of Christmas extravagance !

MelbourneTerrace · 31/08/2021 18:59

@MrsPworkingmummy - was The Snowman the film and orchestra?...this would a great replacement... www.durhamcathedral.co.uk/whats-on/snowman-20-12-2021-1345

And two other show times.

Bobbobbobbing · 31/08/2021 19:02

@MrsPworkingmummy I didn't realise it wasn't on this year. The kids will be gutted given we missed out last year. Even the 14 year old still wants to go.

We've booked for the fancy lights thingy at Gibside. Hope that makes up for no Snowman.

MrsPworkingmummy · 31/08/2021 19:07

@MelbourneTerrace that looks to be the exact same show! Thanks so much for the link.

@Bobbobbobbing if you look above, a link has been posted for a similar show in Durham. Sounds magical and in a stunning setting too. I'm sure the lights at Gibside will be fab. We love walking there.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/08/2021 19:07

My DM buys DDs lego advent calenders or similar.

Bobbobbobbing · 31/08/2021 19:13

Thank you @MelbourneTerrace!

I've booked. A lovely setting as well Smile We normally do Christmas Eve at the Sage but the 20th will have to do. Given we don't put our trees up til Christmas Eve it'll make the day slightly less manic Grin

Theseptemberissues · 31/08/2021 19:17

A 7ft real xmas tree, wreath from a local florist (DH would collapse if he knew the price 😂) space nk or similar advent calendar for myself as a well done for organising Christmas for everyone

wheresmyshoe · 31/08/2021 19:27

Beauty advent calendar, foodie advent calendar, lovely candles (noted the white company recommendation) and two weeks of the most fantastic food and drink.

Bobbobbobbing · 31/08/2021 19:37

Oooh John Lewis Christmas decs are up on the website
Can't buy them yet but can have a nose and see what I'll be picking this year.

MelbourneTerrace · 31/08/2021 20:05

Glad to be of service!

babouchette · 31/08/2021 20:12

I always buy myself the Liberty advent calendar. It is so beautiful and I love having it in the sitting room for a few weeks. The contents keep me going for ages.

I also buy one posh decoration for the tree per year. I try and theme it on the year eg the year we got a cat I bought a cat decoration Grin

ShaunaTheSheep · 31/08/2021 20:31

Refill our old chocolate tin to the brim with Lindor pick n mix not quality street.

Teenangels · 31/08/2021 21:42

We always spend a fortune for Christmas food about a grand from Christmas Eve to NYD.
We drink great wine, champagne and good whiskey.
We buy all other food from Waitrose and M&S.
We always go to centre parcs a couple of weeks before Christmas for the weekend, we go to Kew Gardens Christmas lights on the 23rd I book the tickets in feb.
We also do the pantomime or ballet, between Christmas and New year and to Twickenham to watch the Rugby:
Christmas Eve we go out to a fabulous restaurant with friends and have a great time.
The kids (older) always have a beauty advent calendar or spirts. I have a gin calendar.
I buy a new decoration every year for the tree and this year I have purchased a new Balsam hill Christmas tree, as last year one of my real trees lost all its needles about a week after I decorated it and it was such a effort to find another tree and re decorate it.
I am going to buy the white company candle after people have said about it on this thread, thank you so much for the tip.

Weekend in London to see a show and eat at nice restaurants.
Real tree for the Lounge.
Expensive meat from local farm, bottles of champagne.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/08/2021 22:05

A nice fresh big real tree.
A really big piece of gammon, which we’re usually still eating up by Twelfth Night.
A luscious dessert wine, to go with the pud.
Plenty of champagne and fresh orange juice, for oodles of proper Buck’s Fizz.

Jumpingintosummer · 31/08/2021 23:06

It’s not Christmas without a Jo Malone orange bitters candle Xmas Blush

Ponoka7 · 01/09/2021 05:50

A real tree, more expensive wine than usual, snacks for film watching, candles and liters of Bailey's in different flavours. One year it was the Hotel Chocolate velvetiser.
We have a few Christmas themed days out. My treat is seeing 'A Christmas Carol' at the Old Vic and two days in London. Last year we spent around £350 on Christmas ornaments, because of lock down, which was nice. I don't usually buy sandwiches out, but I try the Christmas ones from M&S and Aldi. I've stopped buying expensive chocolate because Aldi's chocolate has been as good as any.

Holothane · 01/09/2021 06:19

Food even dh is looking forward to it, one week we live like kings.

Notstandinguptoday · 01/09/2021 06:23

Christmas decorations - I get a new one for the tree each year. I’m sure dh would pass out if he knew how much some of them have cost. I’m pretty frugal otherwise!

countdowntonap · 01/09/2021 06:30

Adding pieces to the festive dinner/glassware collection.

rathernotshare · 01/09/2021 07:58

Mines always the advent calendar. We don't have children yet (been trying for years) so we always go stay with family at Christmas and they take care of everything. I can't wait for our own family, then I will go wild on Xmas decs and food. Feels a waste when we're never at home for it!

Bootdilemma · 01/09/2021 08:03

The fillet of beef for Xmas day
The dyptique pomander candle
Two real trees

Itsbeen84yearss · 01/09/2021 08:06

I bought a new tree last year and very expensive matching decorations.
