Handmade Xmas gift from my 1 year old

My mother in law has asked instead of bought presents she would like something personalised and made from my 1 year old son. Last year we did handprints in clay as a Xmas decoration, does anyone have any other ideas what we can do?

Get a plain calico shopping bag, or hankies, and do footprints in fabric paint.

Fabric painted tea towels have gone down well for us

Calendar with photos of him for each month?

Knittingupastorm · 30/08/2021 07:41

Does it have to be made by him, or would a personalised gift involving him be ok? Maybe a multi-picture frame with nice pics of your son and MIL or something? And your DS can make a card.

I'm a cm and revert year we do hand print baubles. Loads of ideas on Pinterest but I get a big, clear glass bauble (so it's a matching set my the time they leave for school) usually from m&s. 1 year old do a reindeer, 2 year old do a Santa and 3 year old do penguins. These images are from Google but it gives an idea.

Oh yes, I’d forgotten my DH does this for me with pics of DD. The picture for Jan is a pic from Jan the previous year, one for feb is from Feb etc. She’s only a toddler so it’s nice to see each month how different she is from the picture from the previous year.

I love that little reindeer handprint bauble! I wish I had thought of doing anything like that.

In a nursery I worked at once, we did this.

Except we put a cotton wall ball on the end of his hat instead of just painting the thumb white

Parents loved them

We made mugs with handprints on which they loved and over the years the children have enjoyed seeing the difference when they’ve visited. We did them at a local pottery shop.

White mug, sponge print a speckled background, leave to dry, then handprint on the mug and use porcelain markers to write the child's name and date. After 24 hours to dry, you can then bake in the oven and they are dishwasher proof. My parents still have theirs 18 years on. These are the best paints and can be used on both glass and ceramics. theartshopskipton.co.uk/pebeo-porcelaine-150-paint-assorted-10-x-45ml-box-set

When DS was about 18 months old, we made canvas paintings for a few relatives. Just some cheap canvases, paint, brushes and hands, and just let him go for it. The results were quite funny, but lovely and bright! The recipients loved them, and they're still on display now. Smile

We've done little suncatchers before which were cute and last year with 2 year old did little painted plant pots which we planted cacti in. We get little craft kits from baker Ross. No clue what to do this year! Oh we've also done painted ceramic hearts - that's when he was one :)

We did this too. Canvases were Home Bargains I think. Cheap as chips and each one was different.
