After last years Christmas being cancelled for most people, what are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m off the scale excited, we will have a newborn

CuteOrangeElephant · 29/08/2021 06:49

We will move house at the end of September and I am really looking forward to decorating it. During viewing I already had in my head where I want the Christmas tree!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 29/08/2021 06:55

Another one who will have a newborn.

In addition to the newborn cuddles, I’m looking forward to food and drink I’ve not been allowed in pregnancy. I’m going to have red wine, gin, rare steak, pate and not give a toss if dairy products are pasteurised. I’ve also got gestational diabetes so my Christmas involves lots of chocolate and lots of carbs - many pain au chocolat are in order then I can streamline the chocolate and carbs. My Christmas dinner is going to be 3/4 roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. The final 1/4 I’ll squeeze some meat and vegetables in. Probably.

I bought new Christmas decorations last year and my tree looked bloody amazing. We’ve decorated the living room this year so my tree photo (which will have newborn in front of it) will look so good! I’m already mentally planning where the printed photo is going to live after Christmas Grin

We just had the normal Christmas last year with the in laws but we didn't get the usual days out and Santa visits with the kids. So I'm really looking forward to that so we can do a good build up to it!!

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 29/08/2021 07:04

Not working!! Christmas has never really been the same since my Dad died 7 years ago and I stopped giving a crap about it completely after we lost our Baby on Christmas Day. For me xmas is just a stress of not being able to afford to buy presents but feeling obliged to

Sorry to hear of the bereavements. Special occasions always have a slightly hollow feeling when there's someone dear not there.

Last year, scheduled haircuts that were supposed to happen on 22nd December got cancelled. Meant I looked at a bunch of unruly mops on DH and DC. This year I'm planning those earlier!! Otherwise it was a lovely 2020 Christmas and I enjoyed not traipsing to see in laws etc 😂

Hoping it's an unrestricted December this year, although I still don't feel comfortable booking panto and I don't think I'll take DC into London to visit Hamley's.

My DS2 was born in July so looking forward to spending Christmas as a complete family (no more kids planned) and DS2 being at a fun, iteractive age.

Anothermountain · 29/08/2021 09:00

bloodywhitecat very much hope you have your Christmas wish Flowers

BitterTits · 29/08/2021 09:03

I'm not 100% convinced Christmas will be unrestricted this year so I'm just going to keep an open mind and enjoy it as it is. I just like a nice stretch with nowhere I have to be.

Last year, we Followed The Rules and stayed in our one-bed flat in London rather than staying with my parents, which we always love. Our heating was broken so we were constantly freezing. Little did we know, it was also to be my dad's last Christmas, so this year we are going 'all out' to celebrate his life and just have the bloody good time we deserve in his honour!

Kirstos1 · 29/08/2021 17:16

@bloodywhitecat

Just Christmas. In November 2020 we were told DH had 6 months but he is still here, still well, his tumours have shrunk and I am starting to hope we may get another Christmas together.
Oh God I hope so x
LubaLuca · 29/08/2021 17:22

Christmas Day wasn't different for us last year. We only ever have it home, and only ever have my mum with us.

I think it will be the events in the run-up that I'll especially enjoy this year. Street markets, parties, the lights being switched on in town etc

SeoultoSeoul · 30/08/2021 16:36

bloodywhitecat I hope you get your Christmas together.

MeredithMae your outside plug is genius.

DiamondBright · 30/08/2021 16:50

Christmas was ok last year, I'm not sure this year will be much different, we were in a bubble with DP and his DC anyway. I took a stand and opted out of the highly political family (ex DH's side) Christmas a few years ago and we do our own thing at home with DP and his DC when it's his year to have them.

Love to you and your DH @bloodywhitecat, your wishes put everything else into perspective.

We had our dream Christmas day last year with the enforcement of just the 4 of us at home, Christmas dinner on Christmas eve, chilled 'big' day. DCs loved it. We're repeating it again this year.. and every year to come!
