Yet another difficult male thread...

My DH every year I struggle with.
We don't usually have a massive budget for eachother but I'm considering a bit of a splurge this year
He had a big birthday during lockdown which went by like a normal day really, he lost his job and took a job he isn't totally happy with so I would like to treat him.

Thing is he is a total pain in the arse to buy for.

He is a MASSIVE f1 fan and has never had chance to go to Silverstone so I'm tempted to really go all out and get him a ticket for there. But I'm unsure when you get tickets for there etc and I don't want to give him an IOU in case I don't get hold of the tickets.

What have you in the past bought difficult males?

Thank you

Red letter day experiences?

You can register your interest for Silverstone F1 tickets on their website. (I assume this will let you know when they’re for sale but I could be wrong!)

Alternatively you could get him tickets to the Silverstone museum

Not exactly a splurge, but this went down really well with a male relative who’s a huge F1 fan www.amazon.co.uk/Formula-One-Circuits-Above-High-Definition/dp/1787394212/ref=pd_lpo_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=1787394212&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Hi, not exactly the same, but I got DH tickets to Goodwood festival of speed one year, and he loved it so much he’s been every year since.

I’ve thought about F1;Silverstone tickets but it is so, so expensive!

BuyAGift has Single-seater track experience events for £209 at Silverstone, he could drive the track. Kinda cool?

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2021 06:47

Apparently next year's F1 timings are likely to be released next month, so if you register your interest I'd imagine you'll hear soon (definitely before Christmas).

I personally wouldn't worry too much about a 3 day ticket as Friday isn't that amazing. If you can afford 2 days, I'd stretch to that so he can watch qualifying as well as the race, however. The race day on its own will also be amazing; I know it's not cheap (though they do sometimes do cheaper early bird tickets or paying in instalments).

There's nothing like being up close to an F1 car! I used to work in the trackside hospitality areas (the ones they knocked down) and the cars used to come really close!

Will he need a hotel or are you local enough to drive? Hotels get booked up across the county very quickly!

My husband is a massive petrol head.
He said the F1 was horrifically busy, and dull. Soo much sitting around for 15 seconds of overwhelming noise every once in a while.

He recommends Silverstone classic, or a goodeood event.

Sorry I didnt see the follow up replies to this thread.

Thank you for all the advice so far.
Still toying with the idea.

If your DH likes racing what about British Touring Cars? I took dh to Croft for Father's Day for the BTCC which he absolutely loves. The tickets cost us about £30 each and kids under 10(?) entered for free.

We bought DS2 a Viking drinking horn for his birthday and we're getting one for DSiL one for Christmas, we bought them from a good festival vikingdrinkinghorns.com/

ChiaraMontague · 07/09/2021 21:37

I’m also buying for a huge F1 fan. retrogp.com website has a lot of retro T-shirts from classic races and teams, what I really liked is that there is a description about the team / races so I can pick one that features drivers he really admired.

They’ve also got ornaments/decorative wooden outlines of the famous race tracks, DH has pointed these out in background of F1 vloggers so I know he likes them.

If you sign up for their mailing list they will send you a 10% discount code

Maybe something from there could go with an IOU for event tickets down the line?

I have absolutely no idea what to get for my DP this year, previous hits have been a new tv, gig tickets, flight vouchers and a new phone. This year I’m setting a budget because I normally just get whatever I see and end up totally skint. I’m thinking maybe a 3D printer?? So he can print little bolts and stuff but not sure if it’s just something that would be put away? Or a pizza oven but I don’t know where we’d store it, our kitchen is tiny. I like getting tickets for something but I also like having presents to open… god knows really 😅

RuggerHug · 08/09/2021 08:51

Might sound silly but is he into it or is he into it and mad into driving himself? I got this for an ex years ago and it went down very well. Plus if you have to travel to it you can make a weekend away of it(as we did).
