Couples gifts

thelegohooverer · 22/08/2021 18:53

We have all decided to do family gifts this year and I have two couples with no dc - one couple in their 30s, one in their 40s.

Can you help me brainstorm?

Hotel chocolat dipping adventure? I bought for a cousin and their partner last year and it went down well

Oxfam charity gift cards ?

What kind of budget? We usually get the PILs either a nice food hamper or a voucher for a hotel stay with dinner.

Get them a experience such as knife/axe throwing.

Wine, chocolate, food hampers , always go down well in our family.

I’d hate a hamper as there always lots in them we don’t eat or charity gift if I’ve not chosen the charity as that’s very personal.

Hotel Chocolat is a good idea. What’s the budget and do they have any hobbies?

Mil got us a local theatre voucher for Christmas last year and we are off to see Bedknobs and broomsticks Wednesday! Brilliant present!

Thanks. Lovely ideas so far. Budget is still under discussion. I just need to get the creative juices flowing for now.

Definitely an experience or restaurant /afternoon tea vouchers. Alternatively look on Red Letter Days for inspiration - there's always codes about for reductions.

Ive got a few couples im doing a movie night pack for, so gourmet popcorn, fancy hot chocolate drops and marshmallows, nice gin etc, not a huge budget but enough for really nice versions of everything and in plastic free wrapping too which is a bonus

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 24/08/2021 16:31

The cinemas sometimes do a little gift box too with vouchers in to add to a movie hamper.
Board game? Comedy show?

anibendod · 24/08/2021 19:53

low spend - I'd go with consumables, so nice wine/chocs/biscuits/candle / hand wash set, or make up a hamper on a suitable theme.

mid budget- voucher for meal/theatre/experience, mixed box of wine. afternoon tea / wine tasting. Perhaps pay for you all to go and do something together?

£100+ - night away in a posh hotel, annual membership to something (eg couples national trust membership is £120), session with a professional photographer

You can get (bear with me they sound naff but look lovely) personalised chopping boards.

Ours was off Not On The High Street, it's probably a couple of inches thick and it's brill. Rather than "Sue and Dave" you can put something more quirky on the side.

And, another one here who'd hate a hamper, as Christmas is typically the time of year when the last thing we need is a big box of more to eat/drink. Also agree that the charity donation I wouldn't like unless it was a charity I'd chosen, as it feels a bit "we've donated to this, and called it yours."

Dated tickets can be tricky as well, unless you know the person's calendar. Tickets to a show are lovely, unless you've already booked a weekend away at that time. How easy is it for them to get to the theatre etc. If we got bought tickets in the west end, to use them, we'd have to clear DHs diary that afternoon, to allow travel time, get ourselves there, and get childcare for 3 children, then either stay in London for the night, or travel back after and not arrive home until well past midnight, which the babysitter will be a fortune for. With travel, and childcare, we'd spend double what the tickets cost just to use them. I know that won't apply to everyone, but the principle is there. If DH had a meeting that afternoon that couldn't be cancelled, we'd just not be able to go at all.
