Dunno if it's an Irish thing but growing up we always had an extra fridge in the garage for all the extra goodies! And omg we were not allowed touch it till our Mam said ! We have just bought a new house and has a connected garage and first thing I bought was a fridge for the garage! Dh thought I was mad!

Oh this must be a Scottish thing too then. I know loads of people with a spare fridge and/or freezer in the garage. Ourselves included!

In Australia, it’s the beer fridge, not necessarily in the garage but also the laundry, games room, back verandah and it’s not just for Christmas.

We have a freezer in the garage (its at the end of the garden)
I store things like drinks in the garage (J20 , soft drinks ,) to keep it out of the DC reach , anything for using goes in the porch which is cold (but easier to get to)

That leaves space in the fridge to be a proper Christmas Fridge Xmas Grin

We bought one last year in fear of lockdown and being hungry!!
It will be useful at Xmas again for sure!!

willowmelangell · 19/07/2021 18:13

Get one! You won't regret it. Special offers, buy 2 get 1 free, beer case etc etc.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/07/2021 18:15

We have one in our back room/shed! Its so useful, great for yellow sticker discounts, parties and christmas!

Chasingsquirrels · 19/07/2021 18:21

When we brought this house we already had a fridge freezer and the kitchen had an integrated fridge.

I brought a 2nd hand small chest freezer last year which is in the garage.

2 fridges is fab, ideally I suppose a full sized fridge and separate freezer would give equal space.

fightingirish · 19/07/2021 21:08

I also have a big chest freezer in the garage it's great for reduced stuff in Tesco and quick dinners! I wouldn't be without my garage fridge and freezer!

Just be careful your garage fridge/freezer is actually up to being used in an unheated environment, we found out the hard way ours wasn't! Fine in summer months and leading up to Christmas but when the temps hit minus the bloody thing goes into hibernation!

Orangedaisy · 19/07/2021 21:26

We have a giant fridge and freezer in the kitchen, and a drinks fridge and garage freezer. Love the storage options. Also have a Christmas microwave. Old one which we kept basically just for the custard at Christmas.

BiddyPop · 20/07/2021 10:42

If I ever get a decent shed with power or house with garage, there will be at least a full sized upright freezer (or chest freezer) and quite possibly a beer/wine fridge that can be used as the Christmas fridge.

DM has a spare fridge that is filled with beer - which was too important to empty last year so the turkey was put in the utility (cooler than kitchen but...) on the counter...resulting in the first ever steak dinner on Christmas Day! Spare fridge must be wisely used!! 🤣

CrazyBaubles · 20/07/2021 11:33

No garage here unfortunately - but if there was we would definitely have a fridge freezer in there!

My parents have one and it's used loads. FIL has one plus an extra chest freezer, all of which is always full as he grows a lot of food but also cooks giant pots of curry / chilli / bolognese and freezes.
All my grandparents had extra freezers in outhouses / sheds etc too. Def not an Irish thing as we're all Welsh Xmas Grin

I have a tall larder fridge and 2 freezers, and I still run out of space at Christmas!

We have a spare fridge under the stairs, handy for parties and christmas, its even been taken to relatives houses at christmas if they are hosting as its so handy

Mindyourbusiness22 · 17/08/2021 13:36

Haha I do this!!

MommaJP · 17/08/2021 13:49

Ours wasn't specific for Christmas but very handy for it !

Henlie · 17/08/2021 14:10

This was something my grandparents had/did - and so do we now (south-east England). It’s mainly used for alcohol 😅, but also for housing food for parties/Easter/Christmas. Really useful!

Like others have said, if it’s being kept in the garage the fridge needs to be one that can cope with very cold outside temperatures! I think we have a Samsung one.

foreverandalways · 17/08/2021 14:15

I have always had a huge fridge freezer in my garage alongside my large day to day fridge...it's a must

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 17/08/2021 17:54

The house we are in the process of buying has a garage and I am very excited to put a fridge freezer in it!

LubaLuca · 17/08/2021 17:56

I have a garage fridge (and a freezer). It's not just for Christmas though - it's full of cans and bottles all summer.
