Poundstretchers had some very nice traditional looking ones. Red velvet with white fur trim. They were a decent size too. Think they were about a fiver.

Will be popping in there tomorrow to get one for dd, so I will check on the price for you

I bought this one last week (wasnt reduced then damn) - its lovely quality and huge. The chalkboard is really sweet so you can write a message from santa etc.

I just got dd2's stocking from here - lovely cotton stocking, slightly quilted, very traditional and an absolute bargain (I got the cream holly print one at £5)

I got one in Matalan for £5.00. It's not huge but big enough to put little presents in for DS

Thank you everyone. I'll look at all your links. I do like the idea of making one, if I can find some red felt locally.

Woolworths has some nice knitted ones. I find they're better than the felt ones because they stretch so you can get awkward shapes in.

I wondered if they were a bit narrow, say for a small board book?

We got all kinds in ours last year. They really stretch.
