I want to get DD1 a digital camera for Christmas. Has anyone got any ideas on what would be good, sturdy etc. I don't think it needs to have a whole load of features, but wondered if I should get a photo printer or digital photo frame to go along with it, or some other accessory to help her make the most of it.
She is going on a residential trip to Italy in the spring and it would be great for her to have a record of it and of her last year at primary school.

I've seen one advertised for children that's a genuine digital camera that they can drop etc. and it won't break. I'm sure someone will be along with the name soon. Think you can get it at Argos / Woolworths.

Sorry, cannot recommend a camera. But I did get an (old) film one when I was 8, and it was one of the best prezzies my parents ever gave me, or at least one of the ones I best remember. I am looking forward to chosing one for my ds in about 8 years.

I know kids nowadays have cameras on their phones, etc, so the novelty would not be there. But I still have some of the photos i took then, of my baby sister and of my best friend and her hamster.

You could also suggest that other family members could get albums, vouchers for prints or frames as presents.

Spanielsmom, that is a great idea about suggesting the relatives get accessories for it. She doesn't have a phone yet, but on holiday this summer she was forever grabbing our camera and took some really nice pictures.
Dabbles, that camera has an amazing range of features, but I think DD would think the styling too young for her. She might be afraid her friends would laugh at her for having a child's camera (actually thinking about some of the little madams in her year I know they would). She is in year 6 you see and being cool is everything now. However it is a dilemma because knowing her as well as I do, the camera does need to be sturdy.
