What are you getting your 10 year old dd for Christmas?

Dd1 is 10. Very un-girly girl, so no pink or clothes

All she can think that she wants is a diary (which I think Santa might buy her) and another bookcase (which neither santa nor her parents can afford ) - so I'm looking for some ideas! Probably a max of £10-£15.

Also wondering what to get for dd2 (aged 9, girly girl)

My 10 yr old DD has asked for a rubiks cube amongst other more expensive things, long gone are the days she asked for a pack of vests and a reindeer!

DD is 12 now, but when she was 10, she had her first stereo for her bedroom. V.v cheap one. I think it was under £20 from Argos. I figured that way, it didn't matter if it was knocked about a bit.

For the 9 year old, how about making up a pamper box. Use an old shoe box and cover it with xmas paper and then fill it with as much as you can afford. Things like sachets of face packs, foot creams, etc. Bangles and things from Primark.

Actually, you could taylor that for both of them!

Cheap MP3 player (£10.99). CD's. Bathbombs. Manicure kit (nail varnish, emery boards, etc). Books/annuals. Slippers.

Her Christmas list is very modest this year....

janeite · 20/11/2007 19:46

Stereo and pamper box both a v good idea. For dd, who is also very ungirly, one of her favourite presents lasy year was a big box with facepaints, silly jokes (nail through finger etc), camouflage paint etc.

This year she has asked for a space hopper, 2 books and a watch - that's it! So I will be watching this thread with interest.

Miaou · 21/11/2007 08:54

Thanks for the ideas - in fact both dds need watches and a clock for their room so they might go on the present list. They have got a little CD player for their room already, and dd2, though girly, is not really into the "beauty" stuff yet - good thought though! She is animal mad, but got lots of animal books for her birthday in November, so I'm trying to think of something different for Christmas.

(I overheard them discussing the other day how they hoped Santa would put pants and socks in their stockings this year - bless )

Any more thoughts very welcome!

I've just grilled an 11-year old and she wants a chocolate fountain.

My DD got a doodle pet for her 10th bd and just loves it. I would have thought she was a bit too old for it, but at least old enough to know she can only draw on the doodle pet, not other soft toys. Oh, and the doodles progress to scars and rude bits. but hey!

stillaslowreader · 21/11/2007 20:26

Last year dd (then 9) wanted a quill pen like Harry Potters. She has written with it for a whole year (washable ink).

janeite · 21/11/2007 21:47

Ooh dd would love one of those! Can you remember where you got it please, Stillaslowreader?

stillaslowreader · 21/11/2007 22:30

I think it was from a National Trust gift shop- somewhere like that. It wasn't expensive- about £5.00. Just a great big feather with a nib fixed in the end.

LucyLasticBand · 21/11/2007 22:31

book shelf? nice shelves?

Miaou · 21/11/2007 22:43

See OP Lucy - bookshelves is too much money just now

Rather like the HP Quill thing - she's HP mad!

have you looked at amazon.co.uk?

go to toys and games and click on 9 to 11 yr olds..quite a lot of ideas there.

Miaou · 21/11/2007 22:52

oooh good idea ... will do that tomorrow (must go to bed )

LucyLasticBand · 21/11/2007 22:53

i did see op but thought you could get a little shelf

Miaou · 22/11/2007 09:10

Ah I see - the amount of books she has (plus she'll probably get more for Christmas) I think she will need a whole bookcase! Will hold off on that until it's in budget I think.

DD1 is getting a digital camera. Still looking for the right one though. She has no idea what she is getting. She can't think of anything she needs, she says. I don't know if that means that she is admirably non-materialistic or just has too much stuff.

RosaLuxMundi · 24/11/2007 00:32

Does she like doing craft stuff Miaou? For your budget you could fill a box with some really nice bits and pieces for making stuff. I know my DD would love that.

janeite · 24/11/2007 17:25

Thanks for the link. I found one in WH Smiths today; pink, with pink ink: £3.50.
