Who's started their shopping?!

ELCSPlease · 26/05/2021 13:12

I've done zero as yet Grin

BUT got a new baby due about 6 weeks before Christmas and I'm thinking any shopping I can get done between now and then would be a massive help.

I started this years list on Boxing Day, just need to keep an eye out for some bargains for things I can get early!

Come and inspire me Smile

@Toottootdrivers if you're getting the ikea one build it before Christmas Eve...it was more complicated than building an actual kitchen!

Squirrelblanket · 27/05/2021 20:04

@ilovetea14 14 nieces and nephews! Shock

I have two nephews and have to do a fair bit of thinking about their gifts. 😂

AlwaysLatte · 27/05/2021 20:13

Me! I buy throughout the year purely as I buy specific things I know people will like rather than trying to think of something in December. I've got about 5 things so far, I need to up my game. I hate Christmas shopping in December!

Nuggetnugget · 27/05/2021 20:16

I save so that makes it easier by the time Sept Oct comes and dc have started to decide what they want. I buy silly bits through the year so I always have plenty of stocking fillers.

TopTabby · 27/05/2021 20:18

Yes, I have!
My dsis is really tricky to buy for & I saw the perfect thing a couple of weeks ago so I just bought it.
Must admit I bought a few Yankee Candle bargains in the sales for my SILs so they're sorted as well.

ELCSPlease · 27/05/2021 21:16

I'm impressed how many people have started, you're all spurring me on Grin

I've had a good look over my Christmas gift list today and tweaked a few things, think I may try and buy for one person a month between now and baby coming... We'll see how I get on!

I've just bought my first item today as I found a discount code for a store I use. Now just need to remember where to keep things. Tesco usually have a Yankee Candle gift set sale around August so will be keeping my eye out for that too.

ilovetea14 · 28/05/2021 06:24

@Squirrelblanket Its a lot and I have 10 birthdays from October till December 4 of which are in December. I'm very late this year with my shopping. I'm lucky that most of them are older so money is the easy option.

I'm finding it hard this year for my ds as he turned 10 my DD is 5 will be 6 in October she should be easy enough I hope 😂

Daisy829 · 28/05/2021 08:01

My dd has her birthday in oct too so I will split anything I’ve purchased. I got DH to board the loft so I can store things up there this year! He was thrilled with that request.

FuzzyPenguin · 28/05/2021 08:05

Made a start last month and the newest pokemon figures and plushies were released and I wanted to grab them for DS before they get marked up on eBay.
I am also just over halfway to my saving for Christmas goal.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/05/2021 10:36

We still haven't exchanged last years Christmas gifts with DD and her DP so I definitely won't be doing any shopping for next Christmas any time soon!

Mrsfussypants1 · 28/05/2021 11:13

I've started, same as every year i start with Next boxing day sale online, same as every year i start of with pjs/loungewear sets. A local WH Smiths was closing and had a 75% off sale so I've picked up books to go with pj sets as gifts. I also picked up a bit in Dunelm sale (kids koala sleeping bag and pillows, dinner sets etc). I have a velvitizer put away as it had £20 off and adult DD has long admired ours. And this morning ive ordered The jolly Christmas postman book and Our generation doll advent calendar. Starting at the end of the month im aiming to get a big gift each month, I'm starting off with DH and im going to commission a pic of his fav place, and grandaughters micro scooter the following month. I like to spread the cost and tbh buy gifts when i think of them or the recipient gives me an idea that way im not panic buying at last minute. I like my bargains too and have a fab space now to store things in the loft. Ive already have my list of big ideas to start on next month like up sizing grandaughters micro scooter and commissioning a sketch by a local artist for DH and aim to get one each month. Id love to be done by November this year as December is such a busy time for me at work.

lazylinguist · 28/05/2021 11:17

Nope. I start in November. I love Christmas and absolutely hate the idea of doing anything to do with it until it's the right time of year! Besides, my extended family tend to do wish lists. Even my do-everything-in-advance DM would think I was raving mad if I asked for their lists in May. Grin

CaptainSpirit · 28/05/2021 11:40

I've done loads! Smile I'm due DD3 early Autumn so I'll have three children to buy for come Christmas - practically everything I've gotten so far I've found on sale somewhere. My girls will be 4, nearly 2 and 3ish months by then and I've gotten some lovely things so far. 🎄

maxineputyourredshoeson · 28/05/2021 14:07

Well I’m back down to just earrings for DD1. DD2 broke her arm at school yesterday and I gave her her tracksuit first being so brave - she didn’t even cry! And then gave DD1 hers because I felt bad Blush

NoWordForFluffy · 28/05/2021 20:03

I started ages ago when I found glow in the dark angler fish bedding in Argos which the kids will love! I've not bought much, just a few bits.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 30/05/2021 07:52

I started ages ago and I'm glad as I've recently separated from dh so at least ds will have a nice Christmas this year. I'm glad my forward planning has helped me out and I won't be panicking and will possibly be able to take ds on a few days out covid dependant.

MrsMiddleMother · 31/05/2021 04:56

I love being early and prepared, but I'm due baby 2 on Christmas day so it's essential this year! Just bought the first gift, a lego construction set originally £114 for 69.99 in Smyths 👍

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/05/2021 09:18

Bought two the other day. Found a silk scarf online that was so beautiful, I bought two extra as presents for a DSis and a SiL. Now just have to remember nearer the time a) that I bought them in the first place, and b) remember where I put them.

Cherryrainbow · 01/06/2021 17:30

I started from January. Partly because I'm on maternity and will have 3 months unpaid until end of September when daughter will turn 1, and also when I do go back to work if all goes to plan I will be doing less days and hours so I'm rejigging finances later in the year.

Ever since my eldest child was born I've bought throughout the year, with being relatively low income I find it easier to spend say £20 on something a month or save, rather than panic later on - all the decent sales are after Xmas and summer etc.

Also, maybe it's the same for others, my love language is definitely gifting and service. I really love finding things I think loved ones will enjoy so planning for Xmas is a joy x

sohypnotic · 01/06/2021 17:32

Thought you would all appreciate Aldi's cover photo today

Who's started their shopping?!
JustanotherTuesday · 01/06/2021 17:38

I've already bought quite a lot of presents. We have to buy for fourteen nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and nephews. If I see a bargain, I tend to buy it.
I buy for my own children nearer the time, they are all adults and will just tell me what they would like.

ilovetea14 · 01/06/2021 18:49

I ordered a few bits today for my DD I got her playskool heros, 3 piggy blind bags, twistables and pages. I'm so happy I got her a few bits as I'm very late starting this year.

BEE08 · 01/06/2021 20:02

I started earlier this year as I bought a few wooden toys mystery box's and they had toys in that I thought would be better for DS for Christmas as 2 were stocking fillers and a train set. DSD I got some lip gloss and nail vanishes in the sale.

tillytoodles1 · 01/06/2021 20:17

My kids are married adults and i have one granddaughter, they all get amazon vouchers.
