I just logged on to the net and came across a news story concerning the toy 'bindeez'

toy manufacturers are recalling them after it was discovered that if ingested it results in a 'date rape' drug effect.

I was thinking about getting my elder DD's some for xmas but after reading that think I'm gonna stick with the hama beads....

I thought I'd put a quick notice up on here to warn you fellow mn'ers.

Thanks for posting this, I was about to buy one as a Christmas gift [shock.]

eah I heard this, two Australian children were hospitalised, so they have been withdrawn there, and recalled. Here, I think they are currently running further tests, and the results should be out int he next day or two. I'd stay away too.

They are called aqua dots in the USA and have just been recalled here.

It's worrying isn't it, esp being this close to christmas.

I just hope enough mn'ers have read this or have seen the news about it

Well,i think it's very good that they have warned peple, but why did they not just say they are toxic?

MrsSlocomb · 10/11/2007 10:14

I bought some yesterday. I shall remind my child not to eat them.

Flame · 10/11/2007 11:11

But they need to get wet to bind - so surely children, wet fingers, hands in mouths... is it worth the risk of being so flippant MrsS?

leggylil · 10/11/2007 12:47

thats a good point flame....
No offense MrsS, but Flame does raise an interesting point there

MrsSlocomb · 10/11/2007 12:59

That's true.

Thanks for posting this - there was a notice up in John Lewis today, but the details were very vague and I didn't have a pen to write down the website. DD1 got some for her birthday and DD2 has already sucked a few

(They are also mind-bogglingly messy and irritating so I will take great delight in consigning them to the bin LOL!)

leggylil · 14/11/2007 22:57

lol....aww is a shame though..

but for those of you who was contemplating bindeez or hama beads

Argos are doing a promo at the moment
any 2 items for £15 and included is a set of 7500 hama beads, with bunny, flower, heart and square boards as well as the other usual bits.....so i picked up 2 sets for DD's for xmas
